Bakersfield

Hi Everyone,

We'll be going back to our usual 1st & 3rd Thursday of the month meetings. Our next meeting will be this coming Thursday, Feb. 5th @ 6 PM. I've reserved us for one of the smaller meeting rooms, but at this time I don't know which one we'll have.

I'd like to take a moment to address a concern that some of our members have concerning those people who visit our group for the first time. As the months have gone by and our chapter of Drinking Liberally has grown, we've also become rather close-knit in many ways. This has led us to automatically gravitating towards those people whom we already know. From what I understand, this phenom is normal - but I think it's time that we break the habit. For this next meeting, I have a bit of a challenge for each of you - sit next to someone you don't know as well as some of the others and get to know them. We've been fairly good at welcoming newcomers, but I'd like for us to take things a step further to make sure that everyone feels welcome!

Also, as of our next meeting, I will have nametags that we can all wear, as requested by a few of our members. This way, we can become more familiar with each other, while at the same time seeming less confusing to any newcomers. In addition, I'd like for each of you to think of 5 things you'd like to see out of our group in the future. You can either email them to me, or I'll have some paper at the next meeting for you to write them down. This is everyone's group, and I want to make sure that we all are fully enjoying the meetings to their fullest.

If you haven't been to a meeting before, or you haven't been to one in a while, come check us out! We're in the midst of exciting times, and we'd love for you to be a part of it.

Hey Everyone,

Unfortunately Cataldo's cannot legally sell us a keg, but they have agreed to give us a discount of $2.00 off all pitchers. When purchasing a pitcher, let the cashier know you're with the Drinking Liberally Inauguration party, and that we are getting the $2 discount. We'll be in the main room, and it's supposed to be packed tonight, as there's another group (I think the Bakersfield Democrats?) that will be there, so get in early!

I've reserved the Sports Arena for this Thursday's meeting, so you know where to look for us.

Hi Everyone,

I attempted to coordinate something with Cataldo's, but haven't heard anything regarding the keg. I was informed that they might be interested in giving us 20% off drinks (and maybe food too). I'm going to try and get things coordinated once more. Either way, everyone is welcome to come tomorrow night to Cataldo's at 6PM to celebrate a new Presidency!

Please also note that we will be having our normal get together this Thursday night, same time, same place! If you have yet to come to a meeting, or you haven't been to one in a while, now's your chance to cross one of your new year's resolutions off the list, and come mingle with your like-minded liberal citizens of Bako!

Matt had a great idea the other day for an Inauguration party next Tuesday - he suggested we purchase a keg at Cataldo's, and then offer free drinks to anyone who comes in that night, care of Drinking Liberally. I'd front the bill for such a venture, but with my new puppy, my wallet's a bit thin at the moment, so if any of you are interested in helping pitch in for this, please respond to this email. If I have enough interest, I'll give Cataldo's a call and see if they'll sell us the keg. If any of you have ideas for the party, please let me know. Updates to come as soon as they are available.

Greetings!

2009 is finally upon us, and I'm ready to ring in the new year with our first meeting of the new year. To remind everyone, we've switched things up for this month (and this month only) to the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. Therefore, this coming Thursday, Jan. 8th will be our first meeting of the month. We do not have a room reserved this week, so we'll meet in the main portion of the establishment.

I would like to thank Tom for hosting the last meeting - as usual, the man is amazing. While I'm on the subject, I'd also like to thank Tom for founding our group this past summer - he's given many of us an avenue to meet with like-minded individuals and share good food and conversation.

If you're on this mailing list but haven't had the opportunity to check out a meeting, now's the perfect time to do so! Put it on your list of New Year's Resolutions, if you must! If you've been to a meeting or two but haven't come in a while, WE MISS YOU! Come on back!

I hope to see a lot of new (as well as old) faces on Thursday!
