NashvilleWatch Party Tonight!Submitted by Amie Hollis on Thu, 08/28/2008 - 11:56am.Hey there, Liberal Drinkers! Come join us this evening, 6pm at the Flying Saucer, for another round of Drinking Liberally! I'm so excited that we get to watch tonight's speeches together on the big screen at the Saucer! It will be a great opportunity to bring some friends, coworkers, or neighbors and take a moment to celebrate how far we've come and get fired up for the tasks ahead. A few of you have asked about bringing some advocacy/activism projects tonight, and that's a great idea! Kos folks are coming, and our friend Jeff wants to record some video for YouTube, with peoples' statements to the Administration (or whomever you prefer). So bring your petitions, bring your materials from other groups; this will be a great opportunity to share ideas, recruit support, and convert folks to your cause! This week's speeches have certainly fired us up; let's get ready for the big finale! See you tonight! Big Night, Big Screen! Come watch on Thursday night!Submitted by Amie Hollis on Tue, 08/26/2008 - 11:21pm.It is ON, Liberal Drinkers! Come join us this Thursday for a very special round of Drinking Liberally! We'll be at the Saucer, where Obama's acceptance speech will be live on the big screen in the main room! Ted Kennedy's speech last night was amazing. Michelle Obama's speech last night was amazing. I just watched Hillary Clinton speak, and she knocked it out of the park. Tomorrow night will be Bill, and that ought to be a barn-burner, too. But on Thursday night, we have the chance to come together and watch Barack Obama claim the Democratic nomination. I don't know about you, but I've never personally witnessed great oratory like this and it's left me wanting more. I want to be with other people who feel this way, who are thrilled to hear what real enthusiasm sounds like; what genuine hope for our country, and our future, feels like; and what history unfolding looks like. So come join us! We'll get together around 6, as usual, and then the fine folks at the Saucer have stepped up to give us a place to listen and watch together, to celebrate together, and to be a part of this moment! So spread the word! See you Thursday! -amie Drinking Liberally Tonight!Submitted by Amie Hollis on Thu, 08/21/2008 - 1:59pm.Hey there, Liberal Drinkers! Come join us this evening, 6pm at the Flying Saucer, for another round of Drinking Liberally! Have you ever seen someone getting prepped for a polygraph test in a movie? The person giving the test always seems to start with some really basic questions, just to set the machine's baseline for what happens when the subject answers a question truthfully. The questions are along the lines of: Q: What day is it? A: Thursday. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0808/12685.html Seriously, John McCain wasn't entirely sure how to answer this question, but he does know that the economy really isn't that bad, that we should DRILL HERE and DRILL NOW, that we should think about bombing Iran, and that we should rush in with military support for countries that like to play chicken with Russia. No wonder the guy doesn't know that yeah, tire pressure actually DOES make a difference in your gas mileage: you don't think he drives *himself* to all 7 of his homes, do you? Not-entirely-coincidental-note: the Saucer has a happy hour until 7:30 on most pints, and again after 9 on American drafts. Y'know, if you happen to be aware that money's a little tight lately. See you tonight! Drinking Liberally tonight!Submitted by Amie Hollis on Thu, 08/14/2008 - 4:55pm.Hello Liberal Drinkers! Come join us this evening, 6pm at the Flying Saucer, for another round of Drinking Liberally! If you're checking out the group for the first time, we have the first rail in the main bar room reserved, and there are usually signs on it. If you arrive and find no one there yet, don't worry! We're liberals, so people tend to drift in over the course of the evening, with most people coming in around 7-ish. Try to think of the unpredictable arrival times as indicative of our commitment to creating a laid-back space for liberals to socialize! (It sounds better than "we're flaky.") See you tonight! Voting and Drinking Liberally!Submitted by Amie Hollis on Thu, 08/07/2008 - 4:06pm.Happy Election Day! After you vote in today's primary election, come join us at 6pm the Flying Saucer for another round of Drinking Liberally! We're going to continue testing out our new method of gathering at one of the tall rails inside the bar area tonight, so if you can't find us, just as any server and they should be able to point you in the right direction! See you tonight! |
