NashvilleDrinking Liberally Tonight!Submitted by Amie Hollis on Thu, 09/25/2008 - 7:06pm.Hi there, Liberal Drinkers! Come join us this evening, after now-ish (6pm) for another round of Drinking Liberally! I apologize for the email delay, but I'm in DC for a conference and MY GOODNESS, this town is a'hoppin right now! I'm just waiting to see what happens with the debate tomorrow, aren't you? All I know for certain is that this stuff really matters, folks, especially this year. I think we can all see that now. So be sure you're registered to vote! You have until October 6th to register to vote if you haven't yet, which is a little less than 2 weeks. I'll be at DL next Thursday with voter registration forms, so stop by if you need one or if you have some questions about registration! Elections have been getting ever more critical for the past few years, to the point where it seems like every election is The Election Of All Time. And maybe that's a part of growing up and being an adult, but maybe there's something more, maybe we really are in a critical time. Either way, our responsibility as citizens and neighbors and friends is clear. So let's get to it! See you soon! Drinking Liberally Tonight!Submitted by Amie Hollis on Thu, 09/18/2008 - 12:38pm.Hi there, Liberal Drinkers! Come join us this evening, after 6pm at the Flying Saucer, for another round of Drinking Liberally! It's been yet another action-packed week on the national stage, wow! I'll just come right out with my own ignorance: what does all this banking stuff mean, other than "we're all hosed"? What are the practical effects of pouring money (that we don't have?) into banks (that are going to fail?), and should we really consider electing a guy who just a few months ago was talking about how he doesn't really understand the economy? I mean, let's face it: I don't understand the economy. But I think that would tend to DISqualify me to be president, even if I did meet the age requirement, you know? I find it striking how events these days tend to shore up the argument that dude, we *really* need some leaders who are kinda exceptional. As opposed to someone we'd like to have a beer with, in the parlance of the 2000 election. Oh, what a difference a (near) decade makes! Now all of us, and thousands of other Liberals around the country, are very aware that sometimes the people you're having a beer with ARE pretty exceptional, and that we can both share our politics while we share our libations! So come join us this evening! See you tonight! Drinking Liberally Tonight!Submitted by Amie Hollis on Thu, 09/11/2008 - 12:30pm.Hi there, Liberal Drinkers! Come join us this evening, 6pm onward at the Flying Saucer! I'm back from the third annual Living Liberally conference, and I have so much to tell you all! I'll start with the swag: I stocked up on the buttons and keychains, kids! The keychains are the classic DL bottle, and I picked up some of the small round DL buttons, but I also got buttons for the Liberal Card! (http://www.theliberalcard.org/, More on that later.) These are pretty awesome: pick a button that says what kind of a liberal you are, and what's important to you. I'm torn between "I'm a card-carrying liberal!" (true! I'll show you tonight!) and "I'm a bleeding heart liberal!" (also true!). For Prius fans, I grabbed a couple of buttons that say "I'm a hybrid driving liberal!" so come get yours tonight! Next: are you registered to vote? If you're not sure, you can re-register until OCTOBER 6th, and I'm here to make it easy on you! Come on out to DL, and I have the voter forms and will send them in for you. I'm also here to answer questions: - What if I just moved here and I'm not a resident? If you register to vote in TN, you're a resident. - What if I've moved or changed my name? You have until October 30th to change your voter registration. If you miss the deadline you can still vote, but you'll have to go back to your old voting place. - Um, which is where, exactly? There's a tool on the Nashville elections website where you can look up your polling place. (http://www.nashville.gov/Vote/) - Do I need a TN license? Good question! I don't think so, but I'm confirming with the elections commission exactly how this works and I will let you all know. That's it for now! Come out tonight, get registered to vote and get your awesome new liberal buttons (and keychain/bottle openers)! see you tonight! Drinking Liberally Tonight!Submitted by Amie Hollis on Thu, 09/04/2008 - 6:56pm.Hey there, Liberal Drinkers! Come join us this evening, after 6pm at the Flying Saucer, for another round of Drinking Liberally! What a week, eh? It's been interesting to me to find I actually do have a fairly strong sense of (as one friend put it) "moral outrage." What to know what I find morally outrageous about the GOP ticket? Show up and ask me! And bring your MO's too, because I think we might have a few things to discuss this evening. See you tonight! |
