Salt Lake City[Drinking Liberally] This Week at Drinking Liberally - Friday, June 27thSubmitted by Jeremiah Roth on Thu, 06/26/2008 - 1:10pm.Artsy-fartsy liberals, Today marks the beginning of the Utah Arts Festival, one of the most anticipated events of the summer for many of us. It will run through Sunday, so you'll have plenty of time to check out all the great art AND join us for some liberal drinking on Friday. This Friday two media photographers will be at Drinking Liberally to shoot some photos of our group for upcoming feature articles. The photographers are from Salt Lake Magazine and The Salt Lake Tribune. We all know that liberals have more fun than our stodgy conservative neighbors, and really, could you imagine what a Drinking Conservatively meeting might be like? So gather your friends and head on down to 1492 S. State St. from 6:30 - 9:30 at our usual spot in the back room of the Piper Down. Lets show the Utah majority that despite their best efforts, they can't pass enough nanny-state laws to keep us proud liberals from having fun. There are still tickets available for the Sunday, August 3rd matinee (2pm) showing of Saturday's Voyeur. Drinking Liberally, SLC will be attending this showing for our 3rd birthday party, followed by a BBQ at Heather and Jeremiah's house. If you've lived in Utah more than a month you'll enjoy this hilarious spoof on Utah culture. See you tomorrow night, Drinking Liberally SLC meets from 6:30-9:30 on the second and fourth Friday of each month through the summer in the back room of the Piper Down (1492 S. State Street). Drinking Liberally SLC [Drinking Liberally] No Drinking Liberally meet-up this week (June 20th)Submitted by Jeremiah Roth on Thu, 06/19/2008 - 7:16pm.Liberal soakers of the summer sun, This week is the first week of our summer schedule, which means we will not be meeting this week. For the summer months we will meet the second and fourth Fridays of each month. Next week we'll have to drink especially liberally to make up for our lost week. Speaking of next week: there will be two media photographers joining us on June 27th to take some pictures for feature articles. Both Salt Lake Magazine and the Salt Lake Tribune will be there, and we'd like to have a decent sized group of people for the pictures so we can show Utah that there are proud liberals in this state. Next weekend is the start of the Utah Arts Festival, and what better way to kick it off than by coming to DL for a few drinks before heading over there? If June 27th is anything like the last few regular DL meet-ups, we'll have that decent sized group we're hoping for. We've met a lot of new people recently, and we're glad to have them in our group. If it's been a while since you've been out do DL, come out next week and introduce yourselves to the newest Drinking Liberals. There are still tickets available for the Sunday, August 3rd matinee showing of Saturday's Voyeur. Drinking Liberally, SLC will be attending this showing for our 3rd birthday party, followed by a BBQ at Heather and Jeremiah's house. If you've lived in Utah more than a month you'll enjoy this hilarious spoof on Utah culture. Let me put it this way: there's a reason we continue going to this each year. Don't miss it. Cheers, and see you next week! Drinking Liberally SLC Not getting e-mail?Submitted by Jeremiah Roth on Thu, 06/19/2008 - 6:25pm.Sign up again. Just a small glitch, sorry. [Drinking Liberally] This Week at Drinking Liberally - Friday, June 13thSubmitted by Jeremiah Roth on Thu, 06/12/2008 - 7:45pm.Hello laughing liberals! What a great event last Friday night! Thanks to Brian for sharing his warehouse, to our local celebs, politicos and entertainers for entertaining us all night, to our volunteers for keeping the event running smoothly, and to all of you who showed up. And of course, thank you to Lee Camp and the National leaders for supporting our local chapter in this event. We hope to make this an annual occasion so be sure to catch us next year. Visit our website and flickr group to read/see all the fun! Do you have 6 words to describe Bush and his administration that were not read last Friday? Bring them this Friday as we return to the Piper Down for our regular DL meetup (1492 So State; 6:30-onward). We'll also be showing McCain what he can do with his beer veto. Please note that during the summer we will be cutting back and meeting only the 2nd and 4th Friday's of each month. Next Friday, June 20th, we will NOT be meeting. As you have heard, Drinking Liberally recently celebrated its 5th birthday. Over the past five years, it has grown into a larger organization encompassing many aspects of liberal living - such as our sister chapter Reading Liberally. This past week, Living Liberally launched its new website. Your emails may look a bit different now, and to ensure they are not going to your SPAM folder, you may need to adjust any filter settings you have created. This new website also has photos uploaded from chapters all across the nation. Salt Lake City is dominating the scene right now with 97 of the 100 pictures being from our recent events - Pride Parade with YDU, Bush in 6 Words, and Strutt your Mutt. Check it out and see if your face is now famous! And finally, now that the Bush in 6 words event is over, it is time to start nagging you about our next event - our local chapter's 3rd birthday! Sticking to tradition, we will be attending the Sunday, August 3rd showing of Saturdays Voyeur. This show will sell out so don't procrastinate purchasing your tickets. Show starts at 2 and should run aprox 2 hours. After the show, we will be heading to our house to BBQ. Even if you can't make the show, please join us for the BBQ! We hear rumors the SLAC cast will be joining us for grub... Visit www.saltlakeactingincompany.org or call 363-7522 for more information and to purchase tickets. For the Voyeur Virgins in the group, check out this Voyeur "educational tutorial". This week's lesson? Gayle Ruzicka! One last thing: the DABC will be holding a public hearing on removing the private club laws. This law does nothing but confuse tourists and annoy us locals. If you're interested in telling the DABC what you think on this issue, please join us on Tuesday, June 17, at 6 p.m at the Administrative Office of the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control at 1625 South 900 West.
