PasadenaCome Drink Liberally Tonight @ Madeleine's (pasadena@drinkingliberally.org)Submitted by Patrick Burns on Tue, 11/25/2008 - 3:14pm.Hey Howdy, In the weeks preceding the election, a photo journalism student from Cal State Northridge, Jonathan Pobre, spent some time at our meetings taking pics and interviewing folks for a piece he was putting together. His completed piece contains pictures and audio from an Obama Phonebank, our Drinking Liberally meeting and from our Election Night party. You can check it out at the following address... http://www.jonathanpobre.com/pol/ I hope to see you tonight. Drinking Liberally Pasadena Cheers, Asa's Back @ Madeleine's on TuesdaySubmitted by Patrick Burns on Mon, 11/17/2008 - 10:20pm.Hey Folks, We have a treat for all those DL old-timers out there. Asa is back in town to defend his doctoral thesis at CalTech and will be stopping by for a visit. He'll be getting to Madeleine's early at 6:30 to have dinner and has put forth an open invitation to any who wish to join him. For those newer members, Asa Hopkins is the individual that started our chapter all those many many years ago. We lost him earlier this year when he moved up to the SF Bay Area. I'm looking forward to giving him a big hug and doing some catching up. Come on down and say Hi. Drinking Liberally Pasadena Cheers, Come Drink Liberally Tonight @ Madeleine's (pasadena@drinkingliberally.org)Submitted by Patrick Burns on Tue, 11/11/2008 - 1:26pm.Hey Howdy, Tonight. Madeleine's. Drinking Liberally. Be there or be somewhere else. I believe that the choice is up to you. ;^) I hope to see you tonight. Drinking Liberally Pasadena Cheers, Election NightSubmitted by Patrick Burns on Fri, 11/07/2008 - 9:07pm.Hey Howdy Well, I'm just about recovered from Tuesday night's festivities. I was moving around so much I lost track of how much I was drinking. Ohhhhhhh. Here's a link to some pics from that evening. A big thanks to Michael for acting as our photographer. And congrats on winning the hammer. I'd also like to thank everyone who came out to share in celebrating the historic election of Barack Obama, soon to be inaugurated our 44th President of these United States of America. It was an honor to share the evening with you all. I saw a lot of new faces on Tuesday. I hope to see them more frequently. You know where to find us. ;^) Cheers to all P.S. Some may be confused as to how this chapter email functions. Living Liberally is very sensitive to the privacy of its membership. So sensitive in fact, that I do not even have direct access to the mailing list. I can add and remove email addresses, but I can't access the list directly. Once composed, this email is sent out BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) to all who have signed up for the Pasadena chapter. It is one way only. If you respond to this email, only I will receive it. Once sent, this email will simultaneously be posted to our chapter's Blog page (http://livingliberally.org/drinking/chapters/CA/pasadena). If at any time you wish to comment on an email for everyone else to read, you may do so by going to the Blog entry and adding a comment. Otherwise, you're just talking to me. If you have any questions, please let me know. Election Night Party @ Madeleine's (pasadena@drinkingliberally.org)Submitted by Patrick Burns on Tue, 11/04/2008 - 2:39pm.I just voted. I Gotta tell ya...it felt good...REAL good. ------ I would like to whole-heartedly thank George W. Bush. Without his horrible running of this country, and the multiple levels of corruption and sheer negligence on his part and of those connected to his administration in one way or another, I would not have opened my eyes fully to the plight of the Free American People...A species that has been on a path to extinction. I was willing to sit back and believe that as long as I made myself happy and worked hard, the rest of the world would work itself out. Although not completely apathetic to the plight of my fellow Free American, there was enough there to keep me from looking beyond the easy no-hassle-to-me solutions. Thank you George W. Bush for showing me that it's not just about me and that I actually need to pay attention and stay informed at a local and national level. Thank you for showing me that there is a better way and that the more difficult path is often the more rewarding one. Doing the right thing isn't always convenient and sometimes you have to work hard to make it happen. George W. Bush has shown me the way. Thanks G.W. ------ As you can see, I'm in a good mood. I certainly hope you are all as well. I hope to see you tonight at Madeleine's. We'll be starting at 6pm and will be going until we get kicked out. We'll be flipping channels throughout the evening to see how the results are reported on the various networks. But from 7-8 the live Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert program will dominate the T.V. I hope that's alright with everyone. Cheers to all State MeasuresSubmitted by Patrick Burns on Sat, 11/01/2008 - 2:44am.Hey Folks, We discussed the list of ballot initiatives this past Tuesday. I was asked to share our general consensus on what we were going to vote on. Since there was at least one contentious initiative, I cannot speak for every person that was there. But, I can certainly state what I will be voting and what I am still not sure of. So, here they are. 1A - Yes. We need desperately to improve our transit infrastructure. The easier it is to travel to other areas of California by train, the fewer cars will be needed on the road. This is a first step. 2 - Yes. It's the right thing. 3 - Yes. Children Hospitals are Good! Infrastructure! 4 - No. This is just unnecessary intrusion on an already stressful situation. 5 - Yes. If they're not a danger to the community, they do not deserve incarceration, but should be given the opportunity for rehabilitation first. 6 - Gut impulse is No, but I will be researching it before the 4th and my position may change. 7 - No. I agree with the critics that this is a badly written piece of legislation that just won't do enough. They can do better. 8 - Hell No! Don't get me started. This just disgusts me. 9 - No. Redundant. 10 - No. This just seems like an unnecessary expense. If they build them, people will buy them. This kind of mandate needs to come from a federal level. 11 - Yes. It's the right thing to do. 12 - I just don't know. I initially think Yes, but I feel I need to come to understand it better before I can decide. That's where I'm at. How about you? Any incite into my questionables, one way or the other? Feel free to add a comment to the blog posting. http://livingliberally.org/drinking/chapters/CA/pasadena Cheers, |
