Drinking Liberally 10/2 with VP Debate

THIS WEEK:

We will be in a different location for just this week:

Rusty's Family Restaurant and Sports Grille
2075 W Grant Rd at Silverbell
http://www.rustystucson.com

We have a private room in the back with two TVs for watching the Vice Presidential Debate between Biden and Palin. Just ask the wait staff for Drinking Liberally to be directed. Please bring your ideas for debate games and plenty of soft objects to throw and devices for making decidedly rude noises.

IN ADDITION:
We have new Drinking Liberally FLYERS! Please email tucson@drinkingliberally.ortg if you would like a copy to pass around.

EVERY WEEK:
We are now collecting donations every week for the community food and diaper banks. So bring those non-perishable food items, and those ultimate depositories for said food. We will also accept cash donations to these fine charities.

READING LIBERALLY: 10/13

The October Reading Liberally will be held on Monday the 13th - not an unlucky Friday. We will be discussing The Great Awakening: Reviving Faith and Politics in a Post-Religious Right America by Jim Wallis. We will also be choosing our reading list for the next six months, so come with suggestions. We are thinking about taking advantage of the Progressive Book Club: info here http://www.progressivebookclub.com/pbc2/home.pbc

We will be gathering at 6pm to enjoy noshing and conversation at Gloria and Andre's:

4100 N. Tortolita Rd.
Tucson
520-743-3253

From I-10, take the Ruthrauff Road exit. Turn LEFT onto Ruthrauff (which is renamed Camino del Cerro as you go under the expressway). Stay on Camino del Cerro westbound for several miles (you will cross Silverbell and Camino de Oueste) until you get to Tortolita Rd. Turn left (southbound) onto Tortolita and drive almost to the end of the road (about 1 mile). You will see a purple stucco driveway entrance on the left and that's us. We will have a lantern by the driveway entrance for late arrivals.

For those coming from downtown, take Oracle north to west on Wetmore (which turns into Ruthrauff) and follow the above.

Discussion of the book begins at 7:30pm.

Drinking Liberally is spinning out a new group, Investing Liberally: an investment club for people interested in learning about investing with a social and ecological conscience. To join you must attend two meetings, pay a $30 administrative fee, and agree to invest a minimum of $25 per month into the club portfolio.
We are taking the month of July off due to the number of club members out of town for the worst of the summer... wimps!

PEDANTIC REMINDERS:
We don't have a lot of rules at Drinking Liberally (for policy wonks, that is...), but please consider the following Eight Etiquette Suggestions:

I. Bringing some finger foods to share wouldn't kill ya, would it? Seriously, it's not wise to drink on an empty stomach! And don't forget the those in need who aren't with us, and bring your non-perishable food items.

II. Bring your friends and/or family. What, are you embarrassed of us? Your recommendation is the best way to help our community grow.

III. Bring your two ears as well as your one tongue, and use them proportionately.

IV. Introduce yourself, and tell others your news and interests. Don't be shy, we like you, we really like you. Feel free to propose a toast when the mood strikes you, too.

V. Tip the wait staff liberally, or they might spit in your beer. (Well, not really - but it's still the right thing to do)

VI. If you wish to smoke, step away from the other tables and make a temporary smoking table. The other jonesing nic-fiends in the group will quickly follow you, no doubt...

VII. Forward this email to your friends and family who you think might want to participate in Drinking Liberally. They can join our mailing list at http://livingliberally.org/drinking/

VIII. DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE! Know your limits and make liberal use of designated drivers. We want to see you back again next week!

Cheers!
