This Sunday join Eating Liberally Denver to fuel the final election push. In the proud liberal spirit of sustainability and delicious food, we will be going to my favorite breakfast restaurant, Watercourse.

Have you voted yet? If not, why not? Would it help if someone bought you a beer or three to convince you?

Are any of you doing Trick or Vote on Friday? I think I found my idea for a simple costume, Joe the Blogger. After all, my real name isn't Joe and I don't have a license to blog (or plumb). Now, does anyone know where I can get cheap bunny slippers?

If you were wondering, we are NOT doing anything Drinking Liberally related on election night. Many folks were at the Skylark on Super Tuesday back in February and it just wasn't an environment conducive to watch the results come in. Too much celebrating. Besides, lots of campaigns will be having parties all over town. We will however have our regular Drinking Liberally the next day. That would be a perfect opportunity to celebrate or cry into our beer. We'll also have a special guest that night. No, I can't tell you who it is yet; it's a secret.

Just remember, even if liberals win big in this election our work isn't done. We still have to keep them accountable to their campaign promises.

Then Thursday the 6th is our next big Sporting Liberally. The Broncos are playing the Browns. Wade's radio station has agreed to do their 3-6pm 'drive time sports' show at Jack n Grill (2524 Federal) that day to cover both the game and the outcome of (hopefully) a very successful election for us on our candidates and amendments. Wade, Aaron Silverstein, and I will be the "political pundits". That should be hilarious.

In other news we have a new Drinking Liberally chapter in Castle Rock. They'll be meeting every last Tuesday of the Month at Brannigan's Irish House, 310 N. Wilcox St at 5:30. Their first meeting is next week Tuesday. Our new hosts, Carla and Marsha should have no problem finding a great set of regular drinking liberals. They claim to be Mavericky too.

Using original video footage from the Democratic National Convention, media coverage of the DNC, live satire and interactive media, DNC Mediamockracy will investigate how the relationship between media and the political system impacts our democracy. The project includes 18 live performances at Buntport Theater, an interactive website, and a High Definition video documentary.

We are here, stitching the wings back onto an eagle amputated by 8 years of the illegal poaching of freedom.

We are here, mending the gashes on Lady Liberty's throat, gushing from the paper cuts from a thousand stolen and uncounted ballots.

We can feel her pulse again!

It trembles like the sidewalk, throbbing under the footsteps of a million marching canvassers. So when they asked us could we pull a miracle off of Liberty's flat-lined heartbeat, we said...

"Yes we can, yes we can!"

It is time! I see your local phone bank filling up with a wealth of volunteers whose golden hearts erase the debt of apathy from the masses. We are taking the white paint worn off the numbers of our phones, and wiping it back onto the flag where it belongs. There is room for you here! There are voter register's fingers who might suffer from frostbite if you do not join their hands.

This is how community is made. It is the look in the eye of s stranger who is on the same page as you that is as silent and powerful as a mail in ballot, because every single one counts.

Seal the envelope with a tear that you shed for a fallen soldier, and mail it first class to your hope for tomorrow, because it will get there. It has been waiting for you all this time to stand up for the angel whispering on your shoulder and do the right thing on his behalf for a change.

The time to stay silent is over. The time to speak out is yesterday, and the day before that, and the 4 years prior when you said nothing while the voice of reason was silenced; not knowing that all the while, that something so powerful was supposed to come out of your mouth. So, when they asked us, could we write a song whose melody could change the tone of this nation, we said...

"Yes we can, yes we can!"

Ask us how we know, It's 'cause we've done it already!! This is what impossible looks like when you give it a clip-board, and send it out to knock on doors in your 'hood! The people in this country are hungry for change, don't act like you can't make a sandwich. No one ever fueled a movement on the groans of an empty stomach, there is room for you here, take your place!!

And we will Barack the vote, Barack the mike and this nation until the efforts of McCain and Sarah Pale-in comparison! We deal with enough beef in this country to know bull when we smell it, and just because it came from a moose doesn't mean it ain't big-game. You can throw lipstick on an elephant, it doesn't make it change. You can throw lipstick on an elephant, it doesn't make it "change!"

Take it to the streets. History is a chorus calling for the vibrato in your voice, and together, we can make steel levitate and collect at ground-zero until New York looks like it did on the 10th of September! The people have spoken. Our leader is the one whose ears are large because he can hear the voice of this nation.

In other news, the egg-mendment campaign was just fined for campaign finance violations, by a complaint I filed.

As I blogged before here and here I sued the Amendment 48 campaign for late filings and anonymous donations. And, we won. That's right, the backers of the egg-mendment, tried to explain their way out of late filings and coverups of anonymous donations over the limit and were smacked down. Below is the pertinent paragraph of the judge's ruling (pdf).

The Committee violated the reporting reporting requirements of Colo. Const. art. XXVIII, §7 and § 1-45-108l C.R.S. of the FCPA by filing late reports of expenditures on three occasions, and vilolated § 1-45-108 and Secretary of State Rule 3.9.b by accepting two anonymous donations of more than $20 rather than forward these donations to a charitable organization or State Treasurer within 30 days. A penalty of $150 is imposed against the Committee for these violations. The Committee shall remit the penalty to the Secretary of State within 30 days of the issuance of this decision.

Palin: That's something that Piper would ask as a second grader also. That's a great question Brandon, and a Vice President has a really great job, because not only are they there to support the President's agenda, they're like the team member - the team mate to that President, but also they're in charge of the United States Senate, so if they want to they can really get in there with the Senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom and its a great job and I look forward to having that job.

Well, I didn't want to just blast something out and fill your already likely busting beyond capacity email inboxes unless I had good reason. And thanks to Max and Marginalized, now I have two.

Before we get to Max, I wanted to let folks know about an important event taking place today, Thursday, at noon in the lobby of the Secretary of State's office at 1700 Broadway. You may have heard the reports of SoS Coffman removing people from the voter rolls against federal law. You may have heard about him invalidating voter registrations if people haven't marked a certain check box on their voter registration form. Worse, you may have heard that many people received contradictory training from the Secretary of State's office about this check box.

Nonprofit organizations will gather Thursday to call on Secretary of State Mike Coffman to reinstate voters whose voter registration applications were deemed incomplete. Voters who may not get to vote and leaders of voter registration drives will speak.

Reporters in attendance will be especially interested if you were one of the thousands who registered using your social security number but didn't check off the other box on the form. Even if you weren't, it would be great if you could join us to show your support, stand up for voting rights, and stand against a secretary of state who appears to be trying to restrict access to voting.

So, I didn't want to blast all of you with just that info, but then I got the following email from Max. You might remember Max and Marginalized as the band who performed for Drinking Liberally Denver's 3 year anniversary during the DNC. They have a new album. (Do we still call them albums? I'm old. Hey you, get off my lawn!) Anyway.

In that time, we ended up with an entire album's worth of songs about the GOP nominee for president, songs we hope will be a mere footnote to the footnote that will be John McCain's campaign on November 5th. Take a gulp if:
Obama addresses the term Maverick

Celebratory toast if:
Obama confronts McCain on the hate he and Palin are stirring up in his supporters

Finish your drink if:
McCain yells, "get off my lawn!"

While the obvious would be to drink at every utterance of "My friends" that could cause liver damage.

As for last night, I'd like to personally apologize to those last night who had to sit so close to the movie screen that it was ridiculous. I should have found out how the PR firm was handling tickets which clearly conflicted with the way we implemented it. For my part, after handing out tickets and swag I didn't get into the theater until there were only seats in the very front row. I actually got sick to my stomach being that close to the screen with all the camera movement. Did you know they opened a second room that only had 20 or so people in it? Yeah, I didn't know about that until later when I got chewed out by the PR firm for standing on the side of the theater because I didn't want to throw up. You might be wondering why I'm using this space to tell you this story. Well, I was told by the PR firm they consider the press there to review the film more important than us. You know, the ones who could help spread word about the film. Even the apology I got by email today was something right out of the Bush Administration's non-apology apologies. And here I thought we were doing them a favor by helping spread word about the film. So, Terry Hines & Associates, stay classy and stuff.

Lots of stuff going on in Drinking Liberally land. We've got tickets tomorrow to the new Oliver Stone film W, the last presidential debate is Wednesday and we've been invited to the Buntport Theater for their new production DNC Mediamockracy. Details below.

So, about that film'. What a way to celebrate less than 100 days left of an error. The PR firm also sent us t-shirts and W shot glasses. The film is Tuesday 7:30 at the theater in Cherry Creek. Send us an email if you want to go and your t-shirt size or shot glass preference. We have about 30 tickets, so first come, first serve. If you haven't seen it, the trailer is here.

Wednesday is the last presidential debate. We'll be at the Skylark starting around 6:30 for the 7pm start time. I wonder if McCain will come up with something meaner and more petty to call Obama than "that one".

Tonight is the second presidential debate. Will people be as interested after Obama and McCain already went through one round? I wonder if the expectation levels for McCain will be higher than for Palin just having to speak coherent english. We'll be back at the Skylark, starting 6:30pm for the 7pm debate start.
