The Myth of Media Bias

godless.jpg
Ann Coulter’s recent flurry of mainstream media (MSM) appearances, which she has used to spread her hate-filled and intentionally provocative insanity, has me thinking about objectivity and balance in our mainstream press. It seems to be a commonly held belief that the MSM should be balanced and should present both sides to every story in an unbiased way. That we should be able to weigh those facts and come to our own conclusions. I think the nation is slowly coming to realize the extent of the imbalance that exists today: that the media are full of Hannitys, Coulters, Malkins, Limbaughs, Savages, O’Reillys, and Podhoretzs, and that there are no equivalent voices on the left. Michael Moore is sometimes pointed out, but when was the last time you saw him on TV? The MSM are way out-of-whack in the objectivity department.
My argument is that the MSM should be unbalanced.

Turning the Corner, Redux

Tony Snow (l), the new White House Press Secretary, and Dan Bartlett, the White House Communications Director, catching a perfectly safe, 6-mile ride from the Baghdad Airport to the Green Zone. I can't wait to hear how they spin this one during the next press conference.

This is what three years of "Mission Accomplished" has achieved. The US President has to sneak into the country, without telling Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki beforehand. Of course, perhaps the secrecy was because the Prime Minister might have told him not to come. That's principle under which Bush operates: it's easier to get forgiveness than to get permission. No, that's not it. Oh, yeah: it's easier to do things in secret than to get permission.

The Decider

"I hear the voices and I read the front page and I know the speculation," the president told reporters in the Rose Garden. "But I'm the decider and I decide what's best. And what's best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain as the secretary of defense."

George W. Bush, 4/18/2006

"I'm the Decider"

by Roddy McCorley
(Original here)

Well, it took me awhile, but I finally realized what "I'm the decider" reminds me of. It sounds like something a character in a Dr. Seuss book might say.

So with apologies to the late Mr. Geisel, here is some idle speculation as to what else such a character might say:

I'm the decider.
I pick and I choose.
I pick among whats.
And choose among whos.

And as I decide
Each particular day
The things I decide on
All turn out that way.
