Patriotic Politics

You know, tonight I had a hundred things to do, but, instead I really felt like getting something off my chest. You see, I talk to young people all the time. Young people who tell me stuff like, “All politicians are corrupt”, or “Both parties are just screwing America”, that sort of thing.
It’s no wonder the youth of this country are confused when it comes to government. Apart from young people active at the extremes, how are the voters of tomorrow going to learn the basics of government? School? Their parents? What is the answer?
I have a friend, a young fellow around 18 years old. He comes from a family of conservatives and when I first met him I was under the impression he would conform to his family’s ideals. This young man had researched the subject of peak oil, and I was familiar with the site: www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net after the Fortune magazine year end issue, and he was scared to death.
It was at this point I was able to convey the difference between being a patriotic citizen and being a citizen who claims to be patriotic. You see a citizen blind to world and national affairs would simply agree with their party and their party’s claims that big business understands what is for the good of the country. A true patriot would question their government. A true patriot understands the potential of the United States and its’ citizens. We are the only country to put men on the moon, the first in so many areas of industrialization. If the government of this country puts its’ people to the task of reducing the use of fossil fuels, we, the people will respond.
It all comes down to leadership. The current administration cannot lead; the prior administration placed itself in tabloid situations. The key to identifying future leaders is character. Not religion, not party, but a character defined by purpose and action. Do not confuse this with stubborn, headlong charges into foolishness (hello, Iraq?). This change, at least on a national scale begins in local politics.
It is why Cubin must be removed. This action signifies the will of the people to change the direction of their great country, regardless of party, in the great state of Wyoming. I feel we need to change our Senators and Congressman until the time a leader is revealed, by their actions. I also feel that until the crimes and corruption of the current Congress and Administration are exposed, there will be little chance to move forward. Forward thinking is what this country sorely lacks…

What the GOP would love you to forget in November…

Republicans are now gearing up for the big push as Election Day nears. Numerous articles have been written regarding GOP intent at a huge smear campaign. All signs are also pointing to FEAR being used once again to drive their voters to the polls.

1. Isn’t it convenient gas prices are coming down, this supposedly has something to do with supply/demand. I’m sure the prices will skyrocket immediately after the election because of winter heating oil… but THE ENERGY AND OIL COMPANIES HAVE BEEN GOUGING YOU FOR OVER 6 YEARS NOW!

2. The GOP spins you until your silly, trying to morph Iraq and Al Qaeda into one big picture. Now you’re being told its World War III, to garner votes.

3. So, what is it now… illegal aliens, gay people, Muslims, black people, who exactly am I supposed to hate. Oh, that’s right; it’s people who criticize the Administration this month.

4. The GOP has screwed up (education, economy, military), chewed up (budget surplus gone, passing out tax dollars to their masters, gutting government programs that help people), and spewed up (rightwing religion in politics, hate speech, fear mongering).

Cubin has been silent her whole campaign. She’s hoping to slide by, thanks to lower gas prices by November. But I won’t forget or shut up about the fact Cubin has been complicit in the horrendous damage done to this country for the past 6 years.
