Drinking Liberally 7/17/08 (w/ Special Guest Stephen Gorham)

Fellow liberals,

We have a guest coming to Drinking Liberally this Thursday. Stephen Gorham is running for Hillsborough County School Board. Stephen is a native to East Hillsborough, a veteran, serving in the Navy and currently with the Florida National Guard, and currently works as the Director of Networking and Telecommunications and Chief Information Security Officer for Hillsborough Community College. Stephen has several endorsements from the Teachers’ Association as well as local unions. Stephen will be coming out Thursday to discuss his platform and how he intends to improve the School District of Hillsborough. For more information on Stephen, visit http://www.stephengorham.com/

I’m also looking for a co-host for Drinking Liberally to help me schedule progressive guests and help me coordinate events throughout the year. If you are interested in helping me out, give me a call. My number is 813-532-9846. It does not involve a large time commitment, and it is a lot of fun.

Drinking Liberally will be at New World Brewery (1313 E 8th Ave) in Ybor City. We will be there around 7 to 7:30 PM this Thursday. Just look for the red and blue bottle. Come out and meet your Democratic candidate, Stephen Gorham!

Drinking Liberally Tonight!

Hello Tampa,

Today is a good day. While we can't guarantee its success, Rep. Kusinich will propose a resolution to the floor today to impeach Bush. For more information:

If you think social security is a disgrace, then McCain is for you!
“Americans have got to understand that we are paying present-day retirees with the taxes paid by young workers in America today. And that's a disgrace. It's an absolute disgrace, and it's got to be fixed. “
Either this is a demonstration of ignorance or a dismissal of one of the most successful federal programs. Either way, McCain does not appear to be in touch with the millions of Americans whom Social Security helps today alone.

I had the pleasure of attending the East Hillsborough Democrats monthly membership meeting on Tuesday. They held a candidate debate/Q&A forum in Brandon. It was a great opportunity to meet the Democratic candidates for County Commissioner, Seat 6 (County wide): Joe Redner, Denise Layne, and Kevin Beckner. While my partiality cannot be expressed in this forum, I can say that this was a great event and I hope to get some of the candidates out to Drinking Liberally soon enough.

We do have a guest lined up for next week! Details to come!

For those of you who got poured down on at the Dave Matthews show at the Ampitheater last night, I envy you! How was the show? Also, the Rays have had a tough trip to New York, but I think because of the turnaround they’ve had, any loss they take will be under a microscope. So go Rays and take it to Cleveland!

See you at New World Brewery (1313 E 8th Ave) tonight at 7!

Rolling Stone, Crist getting hitched, and drinking this Thursday

Hey, Sorry again about the delay. This new page still confuses me. However, I think I got it all figured out.

How is everybody? Good news for the Democrats in Tampa. Just down the street, the new Obama office has recently 'opened.' A plenty of new staff to get the Tampa Bay area pumped for a Democratic campaign. I just picked up the Rolling Stone, Obama adorning the uncomplicated cover, vacant of any headlines. While the interview wasn’t terribly discerning or illuminating, it was some great exposure for Obama. And it’s good to know he’s a Spingsteen fan.

As for local politics, congratulations to Crist on getting engaged. I’m sure bachelorhood isn’t becoming of a Veep, but it’s good to know he’ll be comfortably married as he's touring the state, giving poli-sci lectures in ‘09.

Well, we’re meeting up at New World in Ybor City at 7pm on Thursday. Come on out, you can park at the Volunteers of America lot on the corner of 8th and Nuccio for free. I’m looking to branch out to go find other organizations who would like to join us. If anybody is union, or belongs to any other group who would like to take part in liberal political and not-AS-liberal drinking, invite them out.

See you Thursday!

Tim
