Special Offer for Drinking Liberally 2/28/08 from Jobsite Theater

Jobsite Theater is offering Tampa Bay area Drinking Liberally members a special $15 ticket to see the Thu., Aug. 28 8pm performance of Embedded at TBPAC's Shimberg Playhouse.

" ... the play is harsh, unrelenting, at times grotesque and exceedingly refreshing. In a more perfect universe, every city would have a theater troupe that performed plays like Embedded every time there was a national crisis ... See it before the Constitution goes the way of the Geneva Conventions ... If you don't believe that the live theater can be a potent political instrument, see this play and change your mind." – Creative Loafing

For more information on the show, visit Jobsite's website. This is the final weekend for this powerful, critically acclaimed drama-satire about the invasion of Iraq. Embedded must close on Sun., Aug. 31.

To claim up to two specially-priced $15 tickets per person, give the promotional code DRINK when you purchase at the TBPAC Ticket Office Window or when you call 813.229.7827. Discounted tickets are not available online. This offer is subject to availability and may not be combined with any other offer. A service charge applies. Sorry, no rain checks.

DRINKING LIBERALLY CHANGED THIS WEEK

That's right folks. We will NOT have our regularly scheduled meeting at New World. We WILL be Screening Liberally this week at Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center for a viewing of Embedded. The show starts at 8pm. I'm going to be there early to set up and promote Drinking Liberally.

For more information on the show: http://www.jobsitetheater.org/embedded.asp

Drinking Liberally members get in for $15, but we need at least 12! Just reply to this email and I will send you the "DL Coupon". I need a reply by the end of tomorrow (Tuesday 8/26/08) to commit.

PLEASE REPLY BEFORE THE END OF TUESDAY!

Also, for those who are interested in future screening liberally events, the Independent Film Festival will be coming to Tampa in September. If you haven't been to IFF, it's a great time. There are some great indie films and a great theater to view them in.

Also for those interested, check out the USF Lecture Series at http://ctr.usf.edu/uls/ Some really good speakers on there.

Well that's all. Remember please let me know by the end of today if you're going to go to the TBPAC event. It's an almost 40% discount that the co-director himself is giving us. Let's get together for a great theater event.

And oh yeah, dont forget to check out that other thing going on this week...you know...in Denver...on CSPAN...

Let get together!

Wow, what a crazy week. "Wrong Way Fay" was kind enough to spare us the power outages and flooding by aiming for the poor folks on the East side of the state. So lets celebrate another hurricane-free week!

Also I was looking to see who was interested in attending Embedded, a production of the Jobsite Theater. I want to get a group going (a group of 12+ gets in for $20 a piece) to check out the show. It's a satire of the news coverage of the Iraq war. It does not depict the troops in a bad light, but the reporters and their internal conflict of searching for the truth and submitting their reports. It sounds very good, and DJ (Jobsite's Artistic Director) is a fan of DL. So lets support our local theater troop.

So come on out to New World Brewery (1313 8th Ave) in Ybor City. You can park for free in front of Volunteers of America building on the corner of Nuccio and 8th Ave. I'll be there at 7. See you there!

A set of Birthdays!

Mike Long and Matt Coppens get a bit older this Thursday, so DL celebrates birthdays of two of its own. Both are very much involved in the Obama campaign and local politics.

This week in local politics, Kevin Beckner gets the endorsement of the St Petersburg Times. The Times also came out with it's Aug 26th Primary content (to be in print on Wednesday) but you can see it first at http://blogs.tampabay.com/kyc/ Use the toolbar on the left of the screen to navigate the different races.

The '08 summer games have officially started in Beijing. The question to everyone is: Does your stance on China's involvement in Darfur effect your perception/enjoyment of the Olympic game?

In other news, sadly two great entertainers passed this weekend: Issak Hayes and Bernie Mac. I'll definately miss the Bernie Mac Show. :(

So come on out and we'll drink to Issak and Bernie. And Matt and Mike. 7pm at New World Brewery. Cash only, 21+. See ya there!

Drinking Liberally tomorrow at New World Brewery

Come on out to New World Brewery tomorrow night (Thursday) at 7PM. Hopefully, Birthday Boy Chris Brown will grace us with his presence (somebody buy that man a drink) and we'll be talking about the upcoming primaries and some of the local races.

Also, congrats to Stephen Gorham (running for School Board for those of you who didn't meet him a few weeks ago) on receiving the Tribune's endorsement.

So bring some cash and a friend. Also I'm looking for a cohost/moderator for the group to help me get these emails off timely and help contact guest speakers and what not. If you are interested in doign something like that (not a lot of work...really...and you can drink) please let me know. Don't be afraid, it's a cake walk. If you've never done anything like this before in your life, you'd be perfect for the job! Let me know!

New World is at 1313 E. 8th Ave in Ybor City. Cash only, 21+. See you tomorrow night!
