Virginia Beach Drinking Liberally Meeting Tomorrow!

It's that time again, beach liberal folks! But, wait… there's more!

This past weekend was the 2011 Living Liberally Leaders Conference in beautiful Hilton Head Island, SC. Heather Hawkins went down to represent our chapter and learn about what other chapters around the country are doing in their communities and for their members.

In case you didn't know, Living Liberally was founded in 2003 and now there are 225 Living Liberally chapters in 46 states including DC—and around the world!—counting almost 50,000 email subscribers.

At the conference, we discussed how to become more active in the community, both socially and politically. Some chapters invite candidates for local election to come speak, some volunteer as a group or march together in local parades, plus debate watch party season is almost upon us!

We also managed to secure a large bag of goodies and giveaways to entice people to come to meetings and participate! (Hint, hint.) In addition, Heather will be getting stickers and t-shirts printed with our fabulous new logo. But none of this is free, so we will be talking about that too.

So come out to tomorrow's meeting at The Jewish Mother in Hilltop at 6:00pm. We will be talking about the feedback I've received from the 6 people who have so far filled out our little survey that was sent to you. (If you haven't filled it out, now is the time.)

As always, if you have any comments or suggestions, just reply to this email and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Hope to see you there tomorrow!

BIG Drinking Liberally Update!

Happy Try Transit Week, liberal drinkers of Hampton Roads! We've got a lot going on, so lemme break it down for you…

First of all, a BIG thank you to all of you who came to our monthly Norfolk meeting at Cogan's Pizza last Wednesday. We had a good turnout and there were some great conversations going. We will be hosting the October Norfolk meeting at 37th and Zen, so stay tuned!

Secondly, as mentioned above, today starts Virginia's initiative to get people to try public transit. We're pretty lucky here in Hampton Roads… we have the NET connector, the paddlewheel ferry, the MAX, the Tide, the VB Wave, Traffix carpool alternatives, and MORE! So if you've been coming up with excuses not to try public transportation, leave them at home this week. You could even win a year's free ride on the transit of your choice plus 2 round trip Amtrak tickets!

And BIG NEWS tomorrow… it's the official repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"! If you want to celebrate the end of DADT, join our friends Equality Virginia for a celebration at Elements of Waterside in downtown Norfolk. Sign up here and come show some love tomorrow!

Also, a big thank you to those of you who have filled out the survey to improve your Drinking Liberally experience. Whether you're a regular or a lurker, I want to hear from YOU about how to make this chapter the best it can be! So please, I need many more people to fill out this short little survey in order to get a consensus.

Finally, Heather will be going to Hilton Head Island this weekend to attend this year's Living Liberally Conference! Do you have any questions or concerns that she should bring to the main leadership? Requests? Advice? Let us know!

Hope to see you at the September Virginia Beach Drinking Liberally meeting. We will be giving the Jewish Mother another shot, now with 70% fewer misunderstandings!

À la "The Daily Show", here it is, your moment of zen:

It's almost that time again…

Tomorrow is our monthly Norfolk Drinking Liberally meeting!

We will get together at the same time as always: 6:00pm.
BUT! We will meet at Cogan's Pizza at 1901 Colonial Avenue, across the street from the Bank of America building. We have a table reserved on the outside patio. (Map) Whether you've never been to Cogan's or you already know you love it, we look forward to seeing you!

ALSO!! We would very much appreciate it if you could fill out a little survey. It will only take a couple minutes of your time, but whether you're a DL regular or you've never been able to make it to a meeting, we'd love to hear from you! Click here to take survey

Don't forget, you can also check us out on Meetup and Facebook! As the debate season revs up, that is where the between-meetings buzz will be!

Thanks again, hope to see you at Cogan's!
