Drinking Liberally Phoenix Chapter BlogPhoenix Drinking Liberally, Thursday Dec. 4thSubmitted by John Gallagher on Wed, 12/03/2008 - 11:23pm.Thursday, December 4th will be the last meeting of Phoenix Drinking Liberally for 2008. As usual it's at: Rosie McCaffrey's Who: Liberals and other miscreants and malcontents I can't wait to find out who Brewer appoints to replace herself as Secretary of State (Jack Harper?) Who will she put in charge of ADEQ (Sidney Hay?) Laura Knaperek is rumored to be her pick for DES. Yikes!!!! This is going to really suck. Come talk it over. Drinking Liberally Phx, Thurs Nov. 13, 2008Submitted by John Gallagher on Wed, 11/12/2008 - 10:20pm.Well we have a new president who will undo some of the damage done by 8 years of Bushco. Could he please take office now so he can get started? Who knows what damage these morons can still do before they leave! And why isn't Joe Lieberman being stripped of his committee assignments. Feh! While the country has moved forwards, Arizona has moved backwards. Arizona reelected Sheriff Joke A-Piehole and Candy Thomas and sent even more reactionaries to the state legislature. Most of the few remaining Republican moderates in the state leg were sent packing and crazed nativists have taken their place. Dems lost seats in the state leg too, only question is how many. Carolyn Allen of Scottsdale claims to be the last Republican moderate left. I believe she is correct. If our Janet Napolitano decides to take a cabinet position with the Obama admin and Jan Brewer becomes our new governor, we are so screwed. A right wing wacko as guv with the wacks controlling both houses, what could possibly go wrong? If you leave now Janet, we'll never forgive you. What the hell is wrong with this state anyway?!!! I need a drink. Come join me at Rosie McCaffrey's, 906 E. Camelback in Phoenix tomorrow. We'll start early at 6pm this time. Drinking Liberally Phx, Thurs Oct. 30, 2008Submitted by John Gallagher on Thu, 10/30/2008 - 12:00am.Yes, it's that time again. The Other Thursday. Time for Drinking Liberally Phoenix, tomorrow from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at: Rosie McCaffrey's Come join us for a beverage. Can you believe McSame might actually lose his home state? Now that would be an occasion for a drink! Anyone catch Obama's 1/2 hour prime-time message tonight? Wow! I'd say he hit a home run. Wouldn't it be something to have a president who was actually inspiring for a change? I hear this country once had those. Final Debate Watch Party in TempeSubmitted by John Gallagher on Wed, 10/15/2008 - 2:08pm.The final Debate Watch Party will be held this evening Wednesday, October 15th at 5:30pm at El Penasco Restaurant, 19 E. Broadway in Tempe (SE corner of Broadway and Mill). Come join us for buzzword bingo, beer and blather. Much thanks to Linna from Tempe Drinking Liberally and Toby from PDA Phoenix for setting these events up. Our regularly scheduled Phoenix Drinking Liberally will still occur tomorrow Thursday, October 16th at Rosie McCaffrey's in Phoenix starting at 6:30pm. Let's get together and talk about the debate or anything else you might have on your mind in this critical election year. Drinking Liberally Phx, Thurs Oct 9, 2008Submitted by John Gallagher on Wed, 10/08/2008 - 11:21pm.My friends, With three debates now under our belts, I say it's time for a belt, doggoneit. Camelback Rd., North side of Camelback east of 7th St.) Bless yer hearts, John Gallagher Debate Watch Party in Tempe TonightSubmitted by John Gallagher on Thu, 10/02/2008 - 4:29pm.Please allow me to introduce myself. I'm not a man of wealth and I've been told that I don't have very good taste either. I will, however, be taking over hosting the Phoenix Drinking Liberally Chapter from Stuart Dollar who has more pressing matters that he must deal with. My name is John Gallagher and I will be your humble host for Phx DL starting next week. At any rate, I'd like to invite you to join our friends from the Tempe Chapter of Drinking Liberally this evening, October 2nd at 6pm, for a Debate Watch Party at El Penasco Restaurant, 19 E. Broadway in Tempe (SE corner of Broadway and Mill). We will be playing buzzword bingo and Palin v. Biden should be a real yuck fest(in both meanings of the word). The Phoenix Chapter of Drinking Liberally meets every other Thursday at Rosie McCaffreys, 906 E. Camelback in Phoenix, so we will be meeting NEXT Thursday, October 9th. Since I don't get off work as early as Stu, I've had to move the starting time to 7pm from 5:30 pm. (You regulars are welcome to come earlier if you want, but I won't be there before 6:30 at the earliest.) Hope to see you soon, John Gallagher Thursday, September 11, 2008Submitted by Stuart Dollar on Wed, 09/10/2008 - 11:16pm.Hey folks. The conventions are over, the debates are two weeks away, and it's time to discuss the pros and cons of both tickets, the local races, state races, and all subjects in between. Let's meet tomorrow night, September 11, 2008 at the usual place and time. Rosie McCaffrey's Irish Pub We'll see you there. No Drinking Liberally Tomorrow Night, August 28, 2008Submitted by Stuart Dollar on Wed, 08/27/2008 - 10:07pm.Sorry, everybody. Too much work and real life impacting. FYI, for those of you on the East Side, Tempe Drinking Liberally is meeting tomorrow night at El Penasco, if you want to get together with some like minded liberals to watch a certain Presidential candidate's acceptance speech. Stu Thursday, July 31, 2008,Submitted by Stuart Dollar on Thu, 07/31/2008 - 12:33am.Hey folks. I'm busy trying to adjust to a new schedule, so no snark this week. However, we will be meeting tomorrow night at the usual time and place for a few cold ones, and to contemplate whether any of those "tubes" will run to Ted Stevens' future cell in a Federal penitentiary. Or, to borrow from Philip K Dick: See you tomorrow night. Rosie McCaffrey's See you there. Stu Drinking Liberally, Thursday, July 17, 2008 (Emperor Franz Josef I Edition)Submitted by Stuart Dollar on Wed, 07/16/2008 - 9:18pm.I've been away for a few weeks, and what do I find? Cigarette butts ground into the carpet, empty bottles everywhere, and somebody passed out in the guest bathroom. More importantly though, I see the irony meter is redlined. Jesse Helms died. In an effort not to speak ill of the dead (even when they wholeheartedly deserve it), I won't speak on it. I will, however, express my utter disappointment at the fact that we don't have the prospect of watching him suffer through the possible inauguration of a black man as President. Speaking of Jesse Helms, I see Elizabeth Dole, who is currently in danger of losing her Senate seat, is looking to have an AIDS relief bill named after him. See what I mean about having the irony meter redlined? I'll just say this. Having an AIDS bill named after Jesse Helms is like having a civil rights bill named after David Duke. In the last few days, John McCain has misidentified, four times, the Czech Republic, or Slovakia (who knows which) as Czechoslovakia, a country which ceased to exist in 1993. I guess we should feel fortunate he doesn't think it's part of Germany (1938-45), or the Austro-Hungarian Empire (to 1918). Anyway, it's high time we did the Drinking Liberally thing. Join us tomorrow night, Thursday, July 17, from 5:30 PM onward, as we celebrate the fact that John McCain isn't in a position to veto every beer. Rosie McCaffrey's See you there. |
