Volunteer Meeting for Russell Edwards for Congress tonight!

Hello everybody,

Sorry for such super late notice. I know some of you already know but I'm passing this on in hopes that maybe one or two (at least) more might come to the meeting.

Here's their text from the FB event page they made:
--
We would like to invite you to our 'Volunteer Gathering' this Thursday, August 19th at our NEW headquarters at 1063 Baxter St., Suite B in Athens. We will be discussing the state of the campaign, our strategy moving forward, volunteer tasks, volunteer availability and upcoming volunteer opportunities. We would like as many volunteers there as possible and we would love it if you brought a friend or another supporter you may know....

The campaign has come to a crucial point. We only have 77 days left until the election. We will need a strong, prepared corps of volunteers so we can turnout the 110,054 votes we need to win this November. We will be making persuasion calls, canvassing neighborhoods and registering voters in the coming weeks and we will need to be ready.

Therefore I encourage all of you to come this Thursday, August 19th, at 7pm at the HQ - 1063 Baxter St., Suite B. There will be light refreshments and heavy discussion on how we are going to defeat Broun, Jr. Looking forward to seeing you this Thursday at 7pm.

Please RSVP with a reply to the e-mail. If you can't make it this Thursday then please reply with your availability every week so we can get you started!

Let's win in 2010.

No need to RSVP to me but if you do want to RSVP to them then go to the FB event page: http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=111391758914240

come to Little Kings for Drinking Liberally tonight!

Hello everybody,

Sorry that this reminder email is going out a bit late.

As you know, this is the first Friday of the month, so we are having our DL Athens meeting tonight at Little Kings, starting at 6:30 p.m. and going until whenever.

Starting this month, we will only be meeting once a month- only on the first Friday of the month, so if you want to meet up, tonight is the night! We'd ultimately like to try to make our monthly meetings a bit more eventful so if you have any ideas we'd love to hear them. If nothing else, let us know of any interesting guests you would like us to consider inviting.

We still have plenty of shirts and I think even a button or two as well as the other prizes I found to give out from last meeting, so I again am offering these to any new members or anyone who brings a new member!

I look forward to seeing you all tonight!

take care,

DL Athens tonight!!! (Friday July 16)

Hello everyone,

I hope you all have enjoyed the summer so far and the recent Independence Day holiday. I am very much looking forward to tonight's meeting after taking a few weeks off.

Tonight will be co-host Tom's last DL meeting before he moves at the end of the month to Rome, Georgia with his wife Julia and their new daughter KatyJane. So come on down to give your regards and enjoy a col' beer with him before it's too late.

Also, since we have a few buttons and a bunch of t-shirts left, I am offering these up as prizes for anyone new who comes as well as anyone who isn't new but brings someone new with her/him. I'll bring some random other items in case there be a prize recipient who already has both a button and a t-shirt.

We co-hosts have been talking about the idea of changing the DL Athens schedule to just one meeting per month, and then making that meeting more of an event. We'd like to know what you think of that idea at tonight's meeting. ((I'd like to know still if folks would prefer a different time or day also...))

Well, that's all the announcements I can think of so please do come to Little Kings tonight starting around 6:30 and going until whenever.

I hope to see you all!

FWD: Russell Edwards for Congress Mixer this Thursday

Hello to all on the list and other friends and visitors of the Athens, GA Drinking Liberally chapter webpage!

I am pasting below a message from the Russell Edwards for Congress 2010 Campaign. In short, there is an event in Downtown Athens this Thursday night you may want to attend. I intend on being there and hope to see some of you there if you are interested. But don't listen to me; here's what the email that they sent out says:

--

Russell Edwards for Congress 2010
Campaign Event

Greetings ,
Russell Edwards here, and I wanted to invite to a mixer this Thursday.

What: Russell Edwards for Congress Mixer

When: This Thursday, July 8th, from 6-8pm

Where: Upstairs at the Downtown Transmetropolitan, 145 East Clayton Street, Athens, GA View Map

Why: Come for a fun evening at Transmetropolitan Pizza where we'll join in fellowship and discuss our strategy moving forward.

This evening also presents a great opportunity for us all to get together and celebrate how far we've come in fighting to create jobs and supporting our schools and also understand how much farther we have to go.

I urge everyone to avoid Paul Broun, Jr.'s grandstanding and instead attend an event to send responsible leadership to Congress. He hopes for people in our community to go and drive up attendance. He also hopes for people to angrily disagree with him and galvanize his base supporters.

Spread the word, let's get together and deny him these opportunities. The lower his turnout, the more illegitimate he appears.

There will be pizza at my event, not at his.
RSVP via Facebook here: click

Thanks for all your support thus far, and I hope to see everyone out this Thursday!

Russell

Y'all, this is Patrick writing again. I could not agree more with Russell Edwards when he encourages us to NOT try to attend or heckle the Paul Broun event. Please consider attending this one instead and pass the word around. Wouldn't it be great if we have enough attendees to run out of room at Transmet and if the Broun event looks empty but for his own hardcore supporters? (well, there have to be *some* Paul Broun supporters, even if they mostly don't reside in Athens-Clarke County...)

Anyway, thanks for reading this and have a great week.

correction to last msg

Hello all

I did not proofread my message carefully enough until after it had already been sent. Anyway, I wrote that the June 17th meeting (tomorrow) as well as the July 2nd meeting will be canceled. Obviously that was a typo since tomorrow is the 18th.

It should have read:

That means there will be NO meeting tomorrow (June 18th) and NO meeting on Friday July 2nd. We will meet next on the third Friday in July, (Friday July 16th), at which time we will resume our normal Athens DL meeting schedule, i.e. the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month.

Thanks,
Patrick Moore

Athens DL on Vacatoin til July 16th

Hello everyone,

Due to attendance at the last two Athens DL meetings being very LOW (which is normal in the summer we've found so far), and also due to other Athens DL co-hosts being unable to attend AND also because the first Friday in July is right before the 4th, Holly and I have decided to cancel the next two Athens DL meetings. That means there will be NO meeting tomorrow (June 17th) and NO meeting on Friday July 2nd. We will meet next on the third Friday in July, (Friday July 16th), at which time we will resume our normal Athens DL meeting schedule, i.e. the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month.

Recently some have sent us links or other articles of interest to pass on to the Athens DL members. Please feel free *everyone* to continue doing so, even during our month off, and we will be happy to forward them to the group.

In the meantime, we hope you all are enjoying your summer!

take care,

running late for DL tonight.

Hello all:

Just FYI in case you are already at Little Kings or on your way. Unforeseen circumstances are making me late tonight. I have also learned that my four co-hosts will be unable to attend. Please forgive and rest assured I will be arriving with a fellow Athens DL member in a little while... hopefully by 7:30 ish or so...

I also heard DL Member Alan should be there in a little while too....

These summer meetings do get like this sometimes. Lots of people out of town. Strange weather. Who knows... Please don't let the menacing grey clouds scare you off. Little Kings has a reliable roof in the event of rain.

see you soon

DL tonight!!!! (Friday June 4, 2010)

Hello once again friends,

It's that time, it's Drinking Liberally time. We'll be at Little Kings starting around 6:30 p.m. this afternoon and will probably stay until who knows when.

Please let me know if any of you are interested in going to the Democratic Party of Georgia rally in Commerce, GA this Sunday so that we can arrange efficient carpooling.

The following was sent by a DL-Athens member to share with the group if anyone is interested:
--

Gaza: draw the line here

I've just signed this petition at Avaaz.org:

We call for an immediate, independent investigation into the flotilla assault, full accountability for those responsible, and the lifting of the Gaza blockade.

Join me in signing at this link:
