DL Oly gathering Monday May 20, 2013

Yo. The next gathering for Drinking Liberally in Olympia is this Monday, the 20th of May. Same time, same place (7 pm and the Urban Onion). Kathy and Brian won't be able to make it, but go ahead and have a grand time without us. Need a conversation opener? Here's two:

1. You know who's awesome?

2. What the hell is wrong with people?

Your welcome.

Drinking Liberally at The Urban Onion 7 PM Monday May 6th, 2013

Yo. This weekend our fellow Drinkers Liberal are meeting in New York City to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Drinking Liberally. If you are missing out on the celebration (as we are), we can get together closer to home to raise a cold glass in celebration.

Bring a liberal friend, and forward this to other liberal drinkers you know. If you’re a newcomer, look for the DL logo table toppers on our table (they’re about the size of, well, a bottle of beer, and they look like this: http://livingliberally.org/assets/drinking/bottle.gif ) This link will open a GoogleMap to show the location of the Urban Onion: http://g.co/maps/eu8pf

Hi all. Monday is “Tax Day”. To see why this is a good thing, check out the article, “Taxes Are Good,” at http://www.governmentisgood.com/articles.php?aid=17&print=1. So, let’s get together on Monday and see whether we’re radically progressive enough to raise our libation of choice in a toast to taxes!

Drinking Liberally at The Urban Onion 7 PM Monday April 1st, 2013

Hi all.

The Supreme Court has been hearing arguments in favor and against DOMA and California’s Prop 8, leading to plenty of material for online commentary and comedy. And in Washington, what counts as significant progress on the climate change issue is passing legislation that creates a committee to hire a consultant to make a list of potential actions the state could take in the future. Heck, we can meet on Monday, jot down a few ideas, and even enjoy beer while we’re doing it!

So bring a liberal friend, and forward this to other liberal drinkers you know. Hi all,

Two Big Things since our last meet-up: the State Supreme Court has reinstated majority rule in Washington, and the federal “sequester” budget cuts have begun. Please join us Monday at Drinking Liberally to toast the one and discuss the other.

this saturday - "Chasing Ice" documentary at 5:00

Hi all. Several people at Monday’s get-together expressed interest in this, so we thought we’d extend the invitation. The Olympia Film Society is sponsoring a showing of the documentary “Chasing Ice”. The movie starts at 5:00 on Saturday at the Capitol Theater.

From the announcement: “National Geographic photographer James Balog was inspired by a 2005 assignment to create what he christened the Extreme Ice Survey, and in 2007 installed cameras in four geographically-separate glaciers programmed to snap one image per hour for three years, the theory being to capture changes that, while accelerating, still occur too slowly to be seen by human eyes. Upon collecting and assembling the resulting footage, Balog was shocked and horrified to see how profound the changes were over just this brief period – and by the end of this film you will be, too."
