Drinking Liberally at The Urban Onion 7 PM Monday Night, April 7, 2014

Hi all.

Between the deafening band playing on St. Patrick's Day (Brian and Kathy gave up and fled the scene before 7 PM even arrived), and the 5th Monday hiatus, we're way overdue for some political talk!

Drinking Liberally Olympia is meeting this Monday at 7:00 pm at The Urban Onion. Bring your thoughts, bring a liberal friend, and forward this to other liberal drinkers you know. If you're a newcomer, look for the DL logo table toppers on our table(s). This link will open a GoogleMap to show the location of the Urban Onion: http://g.co/maps/eu8pf

D.L. Oly this Monday at 7 PM at Urban Onion

Hi all.

Well, the legislative session just ended. Nothing major to report, just that the state budget is still tight and some good things (pay raises for teachers, who have done without a COLA for six years now) have remained undone. http://www.theolympian.com/2014/03/13/3032058/go-home-budget-deal-has-no...

Meanwhile in Colorado, the state pulled in about two million dollars from taxing legal sales of marijuana. http://money.cnn.com/2014/03/10/news/marijuana-tax-revenue/

Just sayin'.

Anyway, Drinking Liberally will meet for discussion, drinking, and putting a few dollars in for the state of Washington. We are meeting this Monday at 7:00 pm at The Urban Onion. Bring your thoughts, bring a liberal friend, and forward this to other liberal drinkers you know. If you're a newcomer, look for the DL logo table toppers on our table(s). Drinking Liberally Olympia - this Monday at 7:00 pm, Urban Onion

Hi all.

It's short notice, by the Olympia Film Society is showing the movie "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom" today (Saturday) at 6:30 at the Capitol Theater. We plan on going; maybe we'll see you there.

The latest Bill Moyers show featured an interview with Mike Lofgren, long-time congressional aide and now author of the book "The Party Is Over: How Republicans Went Crazy, Democrats Became Useless, and the Middle Class Got Shafted". They talked about the "Deep State", the people and institutions that guide much of what this country does, regardless of the surface politics in Washington. Kathy and I both found his article very interesting. http://billmoyers.com/2014/02/21/anatomy-of-the-deep-state/

DL MOVIE NIGHT: Inequality for All

Hi all,

In lieu of our usual meeting on at the Urban Onion, let’s instead have a Drinking Liberally movie night, or a “Viewing Liberally”, if you will. On Monday December 16th at 6:30, the Olympia Film Society is showing “Inequality for All”, a documentary by former Labor Secretary Robert Reich. We will be mingling in the lobby before the movie.

Drinking Liberally at The Urban Onion 7 PM Monday Night, November 18, 2013

Hi all,

The elections are over. I-522 was rejected in a spectacular demonstration of the power of money in public policy; perhaps Washington should have more initiatives on controversial issues to pump outside money into our state economy? For those local politics geeks who just can’t get enough, there is an interesting analysis of two of the races (Auditor and Port Commissioner) in the editorial section of “Olympia Power & Light.” It’s on their website, but we’ll bring the hard copy along.

What’s next? Bring your thoughts, bring a liberal friend, and forward this to other liberal drinkers you know. If you’re a newcomer, look for the DL logo table toppers on our table(s). This link will open a GoogleMap to show the location of the Urban Onion: http://g.co/maps/eu8pf
