this saturday - "Chasing Ice" documentary at 5:00

Hi all. Several people at Monday’s get-together expressed interest in this, so we thought we’d extend the invitation. The Olympia Film Society is sponsoring a showing of the documentary “Chasing Ice”. The movie starts at 5:00 on Saturday at the Capitol Theater.

From the announcement: “National Geographic photographer James Balog was inspired by a 2005 assignment to create what he christened the Extreme Ice Survey, and in 2007 installed cameras in four geographically-separate glaciers programmed to snap one image per hour for three years, the theory being to capture changes that, while accelerating, still occur too slowly to be seen by human eyes. Upon collecting and assembling the resulting footage, Balog was shocked and horrified to see how profound the changes were over just this brief period – and by the end of this film you will be, too."

Monday will be a good day to toast Martin Luther King Jr., discuss our high hopes for the new state and federal administrations, and submit our designs for the new Trillion Dollar Coin. If we have time left, perhaps we should draft a petition for Spatula Appreciation Day.

Tomorrow is our last meet-up of the year – if there’s anything we need to discuss before 2013, Monday nite is our last chance! Bring your thoughts.

Drinking Liberally at The Urban Onion 7 PM Monday Night, December 3, 2012

Let’s meet up and toast the anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition (December 5th, close enough!).

Prohibition was repealed nearly 79 years ago, on December 5 1933. Today, another form of prohibition (marijuana) is ending. Initiative 502 will go into effect when the election results are certified on December 6, although precisely what that means remains to be seen. Who knows, perhaps someday we will be sending announcements for the next meet-up of Toking Liberally.

In the meantime, let’s gather tomorrow night to celebrate the end of alcohol prohibition. Bring a liberal friend, and forward this to other liberal drinkers you know. Hi all,

Ir’s time for our first meet-up since Election Day. We won some and we lost some, and it turns out we’re a pretty good bunch of predictors. Conservatives, not so much; the subsequent circular firing squad has been almost as riveting as the election. Let’s get together and toast our triumphs!

Hi all,

We have a meet-up scheduled on the night before Election Day. Bring your bold predictions about the electoral college count. We’ll record them, and award a Libation-of-Choice to the best prognosticator at the next meet-up.

Hi all,

We’re mid-point in the debate season, voter’s guides are starting to arrive, talking points and infographics are flying thick and fast. This is our last meet-up till the day before election day, so if you find a particularly excellent or lousy source of information, this is your last chance to share it with those of us who are trying to reach voters still on the fence about a candidate or issue.
