Drinkin' Librally Oly meeting!

Drinking Liberally at The Urban Onion 7 PM Monday Night, May 21, 2012
Hi all,
Due to previously scheduled commitments, we (Kathy and I) will be unable to attend the two meet-ups in June (June 4th and 18th). Would any of the regulars like to take over for us? All you would need to do is send out the reminder emails and show up for the gathering. Let us know at tomorrow night’s meeting.
In the meantime we are meeting tomorrow night. Bring your thoughts, bring a liberal friend, and forward this to other liberal drinkers you know. If you’re a newcomer, look for the DL logo table toppers on our table(s). This link will open a GoogleMap to show the location of the Urban Onion: http://g.co/maps/eu8pf

Drinking Liberally at The Urban Onion 7 PM Monday Night, April 16, 2012

Hi all,

If you’re wondering why income taxes aren’t due till Tuesday, April 17th this year, it’s because April 16th is Emancipation Day. This is a holiday to celebrate the signing of the Emancipation Act on April 16, 1862, which freed over 3000 slaves in the District of Columbia. It’s only formally recognized in D.C., but we can get together and toast the day ourselves.

Bring your thoughts on this or any topic, bring a liberal friend, and forward this to other liberal drinkers you know. If you’re a newcomer, look for the DL logo table toppers on our table(s). This link will open a GoogleMap to show the location of the Urban Onion: http://g.co/maps/eu8pf

Drinking Liberally Gathering April 2, 2012

Drinking Liberally at The Urban Onion 7 PM Monday Night, April 2nd, 2012
Hi all.

Today is April Fools. And while I could point out many things that I wish were not true (http://goo.gl/ljzSS for example), as well as many more that I wish were true (see http://goo.gl/Yt2hQ ), what is undeniably true is that we are meeting tomorrow night.

Note about our meeting reminder earlier today

When we received our routine email confirming that Living Liberally had sent this morning’s meeting notice to the Olympia email list, we found they had appended an invitation to the bottom of our notice “Be a part of the pro-Israel movement that reflects your values. Join J Street...”

We want to make it clear to everyone who subscribes to this list that the invitation was appended by Living Liberally without consulting or notifying us, and that we don’t have any information about the nature of the event.

Drinking Liberally at The Urban Onion 7 PM Monday Night, March 19th, 2012

Hi all,

Our last meet-up was super-informative. We found a large meeting gathered at The Urban Onion to kick off a drive to support the new same-sex marriage law in Washington. The new law will face the inevitable challenge at the ballot box, and people are preparing for the campaign. We were glad to talk to informed people -- referendum language can confuse voters about whether they’re voting to approve the new law, or the challenge to the new law. Those of us who were there can pass along what we heard.

Hi all,

Please join us Monday – we can discuss the current status of the state budget negotiations, and by then we’ll probably know the results of the Washington Republican Caucuses on Saturday (unless they’re in dispute, or recorded counts go missing, or they don’t want to talk about it). Or, you may have a topic we should hear about.

Hi all,

Please join us Monday for the President’s Day edition of Drinking Liberally. We had a great turnout on the 6th. We still have three of the reusable tote bags donated by Thurston County Solid Waste up for grabs. They came to ask how progressives felt about the possibility of a plastic bag ban in Thurston County. Environment Washington http://ow.ly/94ABf has a “Let’s Ban Plastic Bags, Olympia” site with more information. Your thoughts?

Hi all,

We should raise our libation of preference on Monday to toast equal protection under the law. Same-sex marriage has passed the state senate, is expected to pass with ease in the WA State House and to be signed by the governor. The Des Moines, Iowa chapter of Drinking Liberally has posted charming video congratulations on our Facebook page.

Some of you may already have encountered signature-gatherers for the Thurston Public Power Initiative, a citizen’s group organizing to give the Thurston County PUD authority over our electric power (they currently manage only our water). You can learn more about the issue at http://ThurstonPublicPower.org. We’re hoping a supporter will be there Monday to answer your questions.
