Drinking Liberally at The Urban Onion 7 PM Monday Night, January 16, 2012

Hi all,

Monday will be a good day to toast Martin Luther King Jr, and to remember the successful resistance and overthrow of an entrenched, systematic injustice. We’d do well to remember their perseverance in these days!

Bring a liberal friend, and forward this to other liberal drinkers you know. If you’re a newcomer, look for the DL logo table toppers on our table(s). This link will open a GoogleMap to show the location of the Urban Onion: http://g.co/maps/eu8pf

Event Alert: The Capitol Theater has scheduled a free viewing of the movie “Hot Coffee” at 7 PM on Tuesday, Jan. 24th. See it if you can. The movie powerfully debunks arguments for “tort reform” and binding arbitration. This link leads to a trailer for the show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBKRjxeQnT4

Hi all,

Tomorrow, January 2nd, is our first meet-up of 2012. This is going to be a year full of politics, with more opportunities than ever to get involved. We’d love to hear what political projects you have on your mind. Actually, since it’s been a month since our last get-together, we’d also like to hear whatever else is on your mind!

NO Drinking Liberally gathering Dec. 19th

Hi all. It's a busy time of year, so let's skip the second gathering in December. We'll meet again on Monday January 2nd. In the meantime, everyone take care and have a merry Christma-Hanu-Rama-Ka-Dona-Kwanzaa!

Hi all,

It’s that time of year again. That’s right, it’s the 78th anniversary of Repeal Day. Let’s get together and celebrate the freedom to celebrate! For more info on repeal day, visit www.repealday.org. Not all forms of Prohibition have been repealed, of course, but the annual Washington Poll, conducted by University of Washington during the month of October, found that the people of this state favored marijuana legalization 48% to 42%....

Hi all,

This is to remind you that Molly Gibbs will be joining us at The Urban Onion to talk about Move To Amend. We’d like to have as many people as possible at our meet-up, to hear about upcoming local events in the effort to abolish corporate personhood. Bring your questions! Also, Brian and Kathryn can report on what we learned at the “Meet The Occupiers” event held on Saturday.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT from Olympia DL

Hi all,

We're pleased to announce that we will be having a guest speaker at our next Drinking Liberally gathering on Monday November 21. Molly Gibbs, with the Olympia chapter of Move To Amend, will discuss the campaign to abolish corporate personhood, what is happening on that front locally, and how you can get involved.

From the Move to Amend - Olympia website:
MISSION STATEMENT

We support the 80% of Americans united in opposing corporations having the Constitutional rights of living people, and work toward abolishing corporate personhood (the rights of corporations to use Constitutional amendment rights).

GOALS

Our education and outreach campaign guides us toward accomplishing the following; locally, and statewide:

1. To firmly establish that money is not speech

2. To affirm that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights

3. To guarantee the right to vote and to participate, and to have our votes and participation count

4. To protect local communities, their economies, and democracies against illegitimate "preemption" actions by global, national, and state governments.

Learn more at http://www.movetoamendolympia.org/ , and come to Drinking Liberally on the 21st if you can. See you there!

Hi all,

Election Day is almost upon us. If you have any questions or issues you want to bring to DL before you vote, now is the time! There isn’t much polling available at the local level. If you have any predictions, or a local poll you trust, bring them along.

No Drinking Liberally on Monday, October 31, 2011

Hi all,

Just a reminder that this will be the 5th Monday of the month, so there is no Drinking Liberally scheduled.

We went to Occupy Olympia on Friday, and the camp had grown to about 90 tents. They have a (rather old) list of needs on their website (OccupyOlympia.org), we’ve asked them to update it. Please, check it out and see if you can donate some items or time. As an observer posts on their website, it’s up to the 99% of the 99% who are sleeping in our own beds to do what we can to help those of us who are out there getting hungry, cold and soaked.

Hi all,

We went to the Occupy Olympia rally on Saturday (thank you Chris, for the hand-outs at our last meet-up!), and we saw several of you there. Let’s discuss what we saw and thought of the Olympia and Seattle rallies. Also, Thurston County and the state have both sent out their voter guides – your thoughts?

Drinking Liberally at The Urban Onion Monday Night, October 3rd, 2011

As a reminder, Bally Hoo is now closed on Mondays, so Drinking Liberally has returned to the Urban Onion.

Things were slightly delayed at our last meet-up, but after our impromptu relocation people kept showing up as the evening progressed. We kept adding tables and chairs, pitchers and much talk were shared. The Urban Onion was a nice place to meet, and there’s a lot more to talk about, so let’s meet up there again tomorrow.
