It's tonight at Blue Coyote in Bluffton, in front of Home Depot, starting at 5:30. (We meet first and third Tuesdays of each month.)

Our friend Brian has moved to the "big city" of Charleston. We wish him well, but we will miss him!

From Justin Krebs:
They've given two years of sleepless nights,
criss-crossing the country, devoid of privacy,
scrutinized, slandered, savaged & slammed.

They've had to watch every word,
spend endless hours in swing states
& make every effort to appeal to "undecideds."

And they do all this to inherit a crashing economy,
housing crisis, unending war in Iraq,
broken national reputation & dysfunctional government
that's been looted by cronies & crooks.

Why exactly do they want this job?

Because there's greatness in America,
& it's time to make our country better again.

The candidates have done their job
...now it's time to do ours.

Vote early, vote often, volunteer your time
& come lift a delightful drink to democracy
at your local progressive social club.

Reminder for Drinking Liberally on Tuesday

Can you believe this is our last meeting before Election Day? It's been an eventful week, of course! Don't miss this chance to join your liberal friends to discuss the state of the campaign. Come share your stories and experiences from this election season with your DL friends. Here's mine: I have a staunch Republican friend who decided to vote for Obama based on Colin Powell's endorsement - and he lives in North Carolina, one of those crucial swing states!

Hope to see you on Tuesday, Sept 21st, at Blue Coyote in Bluffton at 5:30 or whenever you can join us. Tell your friends!

Other announcements are below.

You're invited to a political (and more) art show--

A Literary-Visual Art Show with Issues at ARTworks, in Beaufort Town Center, Boundary Street, October 17- November 5th. Thirty artists and writers were invited to create work around their own issues (political or cultural, personal or socio-economic, serious or good humored, For or Against) and they have produced a conversation-provoking, multi-media bounty. Issues include violent and provocative media aimed at children, immigration, coastal ecology, lipstick, pigs, privacy, cruelty, and much more.

The show deliberately coincides with a pivotal and sparkling presidential election season, and is a continuation of a long but unacknowledged South Carolina tradition of progressive art: Dave Drake’s illegally poetry-inscribed pottery in the 1840s; Colonel Thomas Wentworth Higginson documenting spirituals in the 1860s; Lorenzo Dow Turner audio-recording the Gullah dialect in the 1930s; Sam Doyle’s outspokeness & ingenuity, starting in the 1960s; Arianna King Comer’s Remembrances of the Civil Rights Era show, in the 1990s; Julie Milazzo’s Ooo Ahh Oh show that toured with the Vagina Monologues in 2004.

Message from Carol Fowler, Chair of the SC Democratic Party:
Some really bad people are sending emails that say not to vote a straight Democratic ticket in SC. Some say that your vote won't count for Obama if you vote a straight Democratic ticket, or that pushing the Democratic button will cancel your vote. Some of them even pretend to come from the Democratic Party. THOSE EMAILS ARE NOT TRUE!!

They are a scam by the Republicans to keep us from voting for all the Democratic candidates, or to confuse us and slow down the voting. Don't believe them. Voting the straight Democratic ticket is the best way to have your vote counted for Obama and all the Democrats.
I intend to vote for Barack Obama and all the other Democratic candidates by pushing the Democratic button.

Check with the SC Election Commission at www.scvotes.org to see the truth. This election is too important for you or anyone else to fall for a trick.

Join us on Tuesday

Come join your Liberal friends at 5:30 p.m. this Tuesday. We will meet at Blue Coyote in Bluffton for discussion and drinks before going home to watch the debate. (We meet every first and third Tuesday.)

We had a great turnout at the first Laughing Liberally event held at The Comedy Club of Hilton Head on Saturday. We even had 3 members of the Savannah DL group join us! A good time was had by all!

Other than our Laughing Liberally night, we haven't met in three weeks, so there's a lot to talk about. McCain and Obama debated last month. Obama has inched ahead in the polls, even in some of the swing states. The Senate & House passed a bill to bail out the financial markets, and McCain took credit for it.

And I hope you didn't miss the Biden-Palin debate. Palin performed better than expected, they say, but Biden was the clear winner. Here's a couple web sites where you can check out the candidates' claims: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ or http://www.snopes.com/

But, even better, did you see the Saturday Night Live version? In some ways, it was better than the original! If you missed it, here's the link:
