McCain: Bailing, Ailing, Wailing, Flailing, Derailing

The Bush team wants to bail out its cronies
with a massive, unregulated, give-away
supervised by the guys that got us into this mess.

The GOP wants to bail on the American people,
fighting measures to support the middle class
while putting bailout burdens on taxpayer shoulders.

Meanwhile, McCain wants to bail out of the debates.
And if the economy's still rough on November 4th,
maybe he'll want to bail on the election as well.

But now that Palin's flailing, the GOP's wailing
& their desperate lies are derailing,
who's going to be bailing out John McCain?

At least we'll soon take back our ship of state
...then we can really start bailing out our America.

After the long preparations of the different political candidates, Election is now over. The people have pointed America’s next President of the United States. “Change” is what the U.S. has chosen by electing Barack Obama. There is no doubt that change is in store for us. Whether this change is for the better or for the worse is yet to be seen. It’s obvious that Americans believe Obama will bring a positive change to our country. He spoke promising words to restore confidence in the hearts of the unsure with plans to lower taxes for the middle class, put a timeline on the war in Iraq, and cut the federal budget “line by line.” However, what many Americans fail to realize is the fact that Obama also supports the elimination of payday lending industries. He thinks demolishing the payday loan industry will protect low-income families from being victimized by predatory lenders. However, this will be a threat to our financial freedom. Maybe Obama will bring positive change to the United States, but taking away one of the most reliable resource many people have come to depend on during financial fallbacks is not only a risk to our rights to financial freedom, but it is clearly NOT a great start to create the positive change we all desperately need.

The Philadelphia Phillies have captured headlines this week. However, this is not the only story that has influenced top broadcasting news and the entire media. Both presidential candidates, Barack Obama and John McCain, are braving the torrential downpour that forced umpires to call the Phillies-Rays World Series baseball game on Monday night. Thousands of people attended morning rallies by both parties. McCain assembled a crowd in Hershey while Obama was spreading his word at Widener University outside Philadelphia. Regardless of what the polls and pundits predict, McCain says he’ll fight on while Palin defends the attack mentality the GOP has taken against Obama/Biden. On the other hand, Obama continues to proclaim that McCain will bring America “more of the same,” straight from the George W. Bush menu. For those of us who have ever used quick loans, that more of the same just might mean the option will still be available for us to use these loans. Under a democratic president and congress, our financial freedom may no doubt be limited.

Aldous Huxley, author of the classic novel, Brave New World, gives his readers a “warning” of what would come to pass if the government completely controlled our everyday lives. Published in 1932, Huxley wrote the book based on his prediction of how London, his hometown, might look in the year 2540, assuming the continuance of programs to end war, conflict, suffering, and antagonistic (aka: “free”) thought. Huxley painted a picture of what the world would look like if people were unable to speak their minds, or live how they want to, free from the confines of the multiple levels of government. Many people criticized and continue to criticize Huxley for his novel. Several seeds have been planted in the U.S., which have created alarming parallels to Huxley’s novel. The socialist and communist movements have been lurking in the shadows of America for many generations, but the movements have recently come to the forefront of the political platform. Some politicians are attempting to assign the government exclusive control of too many aspects of daily life. For example, in certain areas of Los Angeles, elected officials have created restrictions on where new fast food restaurants can and cannot establish themselves. Yes, you heard me right; the “man” is telling you that you can’t get a juicy hamburger and fries in South L.A., whether you like it or not. What’s worse is that state and national politicians are trying to rob you of your right to access fast and easy payday loans. Politicians want to eliminate payday loans in an attempt to win the votes of bigger corporations like banks, so they can take office and promote their self-interests. Stand up and be heard. Fight to free yourself from the government’s ever-increasing power over your daily life.

The payday loan industry has recently been under siege by politicians from every party. The governors of Oregon, North Carolina, and Georgia completely banned the payday loan industry in their states. However, the decision to eliminate payday loans is not in the best interest of the people who live in those states. For example, in the state of Georgia, bankruptcy filings, bounced checks, and home foreclosures all suddenly increased after payday loans were banned. Although it’s been proven that the number of bankruptcy, bad checks, and foreclosures rise when cash advances are prohibited within a state, many governors of other states are attempting to pass the same anti-payday loan legislation. High-level politicians are hoping to eliminate payday loans from the entire United States. If this actually happens, it is quite plausible that there will be even more unemployment, debt, bankruptcy, and foreclosures in our already struggling economy.

If you are mistaken on the facts of a subject it can create a rocky aftermath, particularly in an instance when you take a course of action based on those misinformed facts. The pros and cons of payday loans, and what the future holds for the industry often can fall victim to this. Some politicians from both parties are attempting to pass legislation that would restrict or take away your ability to get a payday loan. Unfortunately, some of these politicians have succeeded in passing their legislation. Some politicians have even gone as far as outlawing the industry all together. Many of these laws are based on the assumption that payday lenders are run under the same ethics as illegal loan sharks. Please don’t be misinformed on the facts, and educate yourself, family, and friends on the right to financial independence.

The payday loan industry is in danger because there are politicians who wish to wipe out the entire industry. But that is not what is best for the people. For instance, in Georgia, the bankruptcy filings, bounced checks and foreclosures all skyrocketed after the cash advance product was done away with. With no disregard for these negative statistics, following the closure of payday loans in these states, several other governors continue to try and follow suit. Top national politicians are now stepping out in hopes of wiping the industry completely off the map. Should such politicians succeed, there is a big possibility that there will be increased unemployment rates, more debt, more foreclosures and an even more damaged economy.

The payday loan industry has been the key target for corrupt politicians, from all sides, seeking an increase in voter support at the expense of what’s best for the general public. Governors of several states including, Georgia, North Carolina, and Oregon completely drove payday loan businesses out of their states. The negative effects of driving out payday loan companies from these states, appears to have not been the best idea for its’ citizens. For instance, in Georgia, the bankruptcy filings, bounced checks and foreclosures all grew overwhelmingly after the cash advance option was taken away from them. In spite of this downbeat information, following the closure of payday loans in these states, several other governors continue to try and follow suit. Leading national politicians, such as presidential hopeful Barack Obama, are now making it their mission to eliminate the industry completely once and for all. Should such efforts be judged successful, the possibility is very real for increased unemployment rates, more debt, more foreclosures and an even more crippled economy.
