Out With the Old, In With the New

In the wake of the Parkland massacre,
we heard the same old "thoughts & prayers"
and "nothing could have prevented this."
And the student survivors called B.S.

Parkland students took their message
to the airwaves, social media & Tallahassee,
inspiring students across the U.S.
to take to the streets & join the call to act.

Florida Republicans resort to old excuses
& Trump suggests arming teachers,
while students challenge the NRA,
politicians that take gun money, banks,
restrictions on public health research
& the framework of what's "possible."

Gun violence is an old problem,
defended by an old generation,
caught in old fears & assumptions.

As a new generation speaks up,
maybe it's time to say:
"Out with the old, in with the new."

Just think about what a game-changer
"out with the old, in with the new" would be
for climate change, equal rights, immigration,
marijuana reform, school investment,
and 2018's federal, state & local elections.

Discuss & debate with democracy & drinks
as you raise a voice and a glass
at your local progressive social club.
