Next Regular Meeting

Bakersfield Blog

Clarification, next meeting is TOMORROW, Thursday the 2nd of July, 2009

6PM at Cataldo's at the corner of Stockdale and Real Rd.

The Heat Is On!

100+ degree temperatures, philandering politicians, Iranian and Honduran chaos, State budget IOU's, celebrities dropping like flies. Yes, it's summertime, folks, and the news is heating up, much like the mercury in the high desert!

We had a great group turn out last meeting, and I'd like for us to top our numbers this go around. If you haven't had an opportunity to check out Drinking Liberally, now is an excellent opportunity to come inside and chill out with good food, good drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and most importantly, excellent conversation. If you've been to a meeting before, but have been away, WE MISS YOU! Come on back! If you come religiously, BRING A FRIEND!

Luckily, I was smart enough to reserve a room for this week, so we'll be meeting in the room towards the back left quadrant.

I hope to see plenty of new and old faces!

Is Iran On the Verge of a Revolution?

The Iranian election of last week has captivated millions around the world - including many of us here in Kern county. What a great topic of discussion for our next Drinking Liberally, which just happens to be tomorrow night, 6PM at Cataldo's!

If you haven't been to a meeting before, or haven't come in a while, we'd love to have you join us for friendly conversation, good food and good beverages with like-minded individuals.

I'd like to also take a moment to address some concerns that have been brought to my attention in recent meetings. There has been some confusion as to how our local chapter of Drinking Liberally operates. This email should clarify things:

We market ourselves on being an all-inclusive group, and we want to welcome everyone who wishes to partake in discussion; however, we have an unwritten rule that said discussion should be respectful to others. We are not debate club. We gather together to exchange ideas in a respectful manner. We gather together to enjoy each others company.

A few meetings back, we had a few guests who did not fully understand how the group works, and I think that led to some ultimate confusion and even made some people uncomfortable. Discussion became more like a heated debate for the sake of argument, instead of friendly dialog. Please note that those individuals are not an example of who we are or what we do. While we encourage everyone to attend, our chapter of Drinking Liberally won't always fit with everyone.

With that being said, I still would like to welcome and encourage all who feel that our group is a good fit for them - we are here to make friends!

TOMORROW (5/21/09)

6 PM.

CATALDO'S.

BE THERE.. or.. just BE.

It Feels Like Forever and a Day....

Hi Everyone,

It's been a few weeks since we've all seen each other. Tax day has come and gone, and now we face the tail end of the "Swine Flu" hype and hysteria.

That being said, it's that time again - time for another Drinking Liberally meeting! I made one little mistake and forgot to reserve a room this past time, so we might be in the main area on Thursday - I'll still see if we can get into one of the private rooms though.

I'd love to see some of you who haven't been to a meeting in a while - and I'd also love to see some new faces.

If you're forgetful, just remember, 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, 6 PM @ Cataldo's.

Thanks!

Andrew
