Windsor DL re-scheduling CCAG: Still meeting Oct. 7

Hi Everyone-

CHANGE OF SPEAKER!

Due to a scheduling conflict, Tom Swan and CCAG will present at the December 2 DL, instead of October 7.

October DL will still meet, and be co-hosted by Darleen Klase and Hilary Carpenter.

The October 7 meeting will be at 7:30 pm in the back room of the Union St. Tavern.

Sorry for the change and see you soon.

Windsor DL in October welcomes Tom Swan of CCAG

Hi Everyone,

Our October 7 Windsor DL will feature Tom Swan of the Connecticut Citizen Action Group. Tom will discuss CCAG's work on a living minimum wage, and also student debt and corporate accountability.

A new report "Families Out of Balance," is the first in the 2014 Job Gap Economic Prosperity Series produced by the Alliance for a Just Society. CCAG helped contribute Connecticut-specific information to the report, which found that low-income households bear a dramatically disproportionate debt burden. The low-income group has $15.64 in income for every $1 of debt, while more affluent workers have $32.42 for every $1 of debt, according to CT News Junkie's account.

In Connecticut, students graduate with $27,816 in student loans and the average credit card holder in the state has an outstanding debt of $5,617. But those debt figures were not included in the calculation the group used to come up with the living wage, which varies from state to state.

As usual, we'll meet at 7:30 pm at the Union Street Tavern. Hope to see you there!

So am I. Let's hear what we can do about it.

Common Cause has long been a leading voice for open, honest and accountable government. Come learn about their work in Connecticut, and what we can do to help overturn Citizens United.

CT Common Cause Executive Director Cheri Quickmire, Board Chair Dr. Bilal Sekou, and senior organizer Kim Hynes will join us.

Usual time and place - Tuesday August 5, 7:30 p.m. at the Union St. Tavern in Windsor.

Hope you can be there.
