Boise BlogDLB's Post-Modern Generalized Holiday JollificationSubmitted by Whitney Rearick on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 5:46pm.Well, hi there! *******Drinking Liberally meets TONIGHT at a new location: the Falcon. Details below.******** You're looking chipper! Seems the thought of Democrats in the Idaho congressional delegation and the White House is putting a spring in your step, eh? Well, why not share the love with your liberal pals? We'll be toasting the return of snow, the brighter side of the Great Recession (bar set low on gifts!), the (mostly) separation of church and state (always a pleasure), the return of the letters "D-ID", and, yes, some Drinking Liberally schwag we'll be raffling off. WE'VE MOVED! Tonight's Jollification will be at the Falcon Tavern (insert generic avian screech here), 780 Idaho St., 7:00 PM. See you soon! Whitney "Black Widow" Rearick We've got a Facebook page! DLB receives venue bailout!Submitted by Whitney Rearick on Fri, 12/12/2008 - 12:01am.Greetings fellow Liberals! We're moving again. It was a sad, sad way to start the day. Listening to NPR while padding around the house one dark and chilly morning, as I groped for my toothbrush I heard the news. "Another downtown Boise restaurant has closed," said the Nice Public Radio Man. City Grill is no more. Toothbrush in hand, I pumped my fist in the air. "But what about the basement vault!" I cried. "Finally, a venue that understood us AND was wheelchair accessible!" Apparently our election debate beers and platters of artichoke dip weren't enough to save them. Fortunately someone knew someone who knew someone who runs the Falcon Tavern. We approached, three-cornered hats in hand. Much like Ford, GM and Chrysler, we didn't have much of a plan. Unlike the Big Three, we didn't ask for much. We liberals, we're givers. In fact, we pretty much offered your booze dollars in a down economy. Mr. Falcon Tavern found our doleful gaze and fluttering eyelashes irresistable and said yes. So pony up, people. Save a Boise restaurant from extinction! And if anyone from the City Grill is reading this, join us. Though we only knew you a few months, we think you're the bees knees. Best wishes in your new endeavors. ****See you this Wednesday, December 17 at 7 PM at the Falcon Tavern at 780 W. Idaho Street.**** Cheers! Whitney "I pity the fool that doesn't buy local!" Rearick Free Food and Fun with DLB!Submitted by Whitney Rearick on Wed, 11/19/2008 - 1:04am.Can't wait to see you Wednesday at 7 PM at the City Grill for our first ever FFO (Free Food Opportunity, as us college grads know). You really should come, and share the continuing election giddiness with your pals before Obama is sworn in and inevitably makes a dissapointing decision or two. We'd like to thank our courageous candidates, campaign staff and volunteers for their hard work and dedication this election year. Can you buy one candidate, staff member or hardworking volunteer a drink? If each one of us Liberal Drinkers buys just one Appreciation Beverage (even if it is just a 7-Up) for one person, well, we can relly help these folks feel the love (but not drink to excess! Just one drink per worker is all I ask). Me, I've already promised Randy Johnson a Thank You drink. Brad is sending his to Bill Sali ('cause he's going to need it). Cheers! Whitney "Subaru Barbie" Rearick Toast lame ducks with Drinking Liberally!Submitted by Whitney Rearick on Fri, 11/14/2008 - 3:15am.The First "Holy Crap, We Actually Pulled It Off" Drinking Liberally Boise is this Wednesday, November 19 at 7 PM at the City Grill, 199 8th Street in Boise. Trying to quit the "refresh" habit for your favorite poll watching site? Feeling bereft without your daily Palinism? Wondering what to put as your status on your Facebook page? Still clinging to those campaign buttons? Drinking Liberally Boise is here for you. RELIVE the thrill of seeing an arugula-eating, gutter-ballin' pal-o-terriers get elected to the highest post in the land! THRILL to the pleasures of restored human rights! BASK in the warm, crimson glow of socialism (I kid! I kid). ...WINCE as you recall the losses of some really great local candidates, and the passage of some really bad anti-gay ballot measures. Yes, fellow liberal drinkers, THIS IS A* HISTORIC ELECTION SEASON. Why? For the first time in our tawdry history, Drinking Liberally this election month will feature FREE FOOD! And not just any food, this food will be made by actual Food Professionals (y'know the kind that work at a restaurant), and not be butter-soaked sugary baked goods like last time. I NEED YOU TO DO ME A LITTLE BITTY FAVOR: RSVP. The nice folks at Credo Action have donated funds to pay for food for this fine event. All we have to do is RSVP here: http://act.credoaction.com/event/events/event.html?event_id=1017&id=# I need RSVPs or they won't reimburse me, so please RSVP. Thanks. Just like always, you can still come if you don't RSVP, it just would be nice if you did RSVP so I don't have to hit you up for that $100 I'll be stuck paying with if you're too lazy to click on that RSVP link and fill out a few lousy RSVP lines. This month we'd especially like to thank our hard working candidates, campaign workers and volunteers, so if you have a moment, please invite anyone you know who needs a good hearty thank-you from a bunch of really appreciative, jolly souls.** IN OTHER NEWS: While the country was turning the page to a new, optimistic chapter in American history, four states passed measures restricting the rights of some of its citizens. Florida, Arizona, Arkansas, and California all passed measures against gay rights. Not being able to marry whoever you want (or adopt a kid regardless of your sexual orientation) is what's known as inequality, and it's wrong. Why should I have more rights than some of my friends? So this Saturday, just like thousands of people from all over the country, I'll be attending a protest in support of equal rights for ALL people, regardless of who they happen to love. In Boise, we'll be meeting in front of the Capitol at 11:30 AM this Saturday. Details here: http://jointheimpact.wetpaint.com/page/Boise Join us! Whitney "Rizzvip" Rearick *Note to Mrs. Fisicelli, my 5th grade teacher: yeah, I know it's supposed to be "an" historic election, but I'm taking a stand. It just sounds weird. Obama would agree, I'm sure. **Yes, Conservation Voters for Idaho is having a similar thing the same night, and it's going to very cool, too. But hey, they picked the Third Wednesday, and everyone knows that's the night we drink! Liberally!
