Drinking Liberally Tomorrow Night (6/21)

We've reached the end of primary season, but there's going to be a lot to talk about this week at Drinking Liberally. We will be starting at our usual time, 7PM, in the back room of O'shaugnessy's, located at 4557 N. Ravenswood.

With the shooting at Pulse in Orlando, and a Democratic filibuster, we will be getting a vote on gun control. Unfortunately it's unlikely that any of the measures pass with Republican control of the Senate.

This weekend was the People's Summit in Chicago, an event that was trying to channel the energy behind the Bernie Sanders campaign into a larger progressive agenda. I was there all weekend, so I'll be talking about what I took away from the event.

In local news, the city council passed legislation that might drive Uber and Lyft out of Chicago. In slightly less local news, we still don't have a budget in Illinois. It's been almost a year since we've had a budget.

Hope to see you there!

Drinking Liberally - California Primary Night (6/7)

Hey everybody! It's going to be a big night tomorrow night as what could be the last big battle of the Democratic primary plays out in California. Will Clinton win and secure her path to the nomination? Will Sanders pull off an upset and question whether Clinton can really go the distance in the general election? Come out to Drinking Liberally, celebrate, or drown your sorrows as needed!

We'll be meeting our usual location, O'shaugnessy's located at 4557 N. Ravenswood. We will be meeting in the backroom and we'll get things started at 7:00. Bear in mind that the California polls don't close until 10PM central time, so it might be a late night.

In other news, I wanted to make sure people heard about a big progressive conference that will be happening right in our back yard. The weekend of June 17th, the People's Summit, will be happening at McCormick place. You can find out more about it here: http://www.thepeoplessummit.org/#about.

Drinking Liberally Oregon Primary Night (5/17)

Tonight we have the Kentucky and Oregon primaries happening. At this point we're not expecting any major shifts in the election, but at least we can hang out with some fellow liberals and have a few drinks. So come on out to our usual place, O'shaugnessy's, located at 4557 N. Ravenswood, and we'll get things started at 7PM. We'll be meeting in the back room as usual.

In addition to following the election results, we'll probably be talking about what happened at the Nevada state convention. Is this a sign of things to come, or will things settle down as Democrats face the Trumpnado?

Drinking Liberally Indiana Primary Night

Apologies for the late reminder but yes, there will be a Drinking Liberally meeting tonight. We'll be at our usual place, O'shaugnessy's, located at 4557 N. Ravenswood. We'll get things started at 7PM in the back room.

The window for Sanders narrowed since our last meeting, so can he turn things around with a big showing in Indiana? Current polling gives Clinton a narrow advantage, but it's the votes that count, not the polls. Trump looks set to pick up more delegates and the only question now is whether he can get enough to prevent a brokered convention.

In other news, there's other news:

- A Navy SEAL was killed in Iraq, though I'm not sure if he officially counts as "boots on the ground"
- Obama turned in his final performance at the correspondents dinner to rave reviews
- The Huffington Post and Fox News got into a fight at the correspondents dinner which raises the hope that maybe the press cares about this news thing they generate ad revenue from
- Illinois still has no budget. No word on whether Rauner's skills as a fiddle player have improved during the stalemate.

Drinking Liberally New York Primary Night (4/19)

It's a big night this Tuesday with the New York primary results rolling in. Current polling has Clinton maintaining a comfortable lead, but if Sanders can pull off an upset tomorrow night it could be huge! If Clinton holds on though it may put the nomination out of reach for Sanders. We'll have lots to talk about no matter what happens.

You can join us at our usual location, O'shaugnessy's, located 4557 N. Ravenswood. We'll be meeting in the back room starting at 7PM. Hope to see you there!
