Roger and I wanted to email everyone to let you know that we are canceling our meeting tomorrow (January 1) at Byrnes Pub. We figured people would be partying enough tonight. Plus......

A new year brings many new things, and one of our absolute favorites is the fact that there will be a new administration moving in to the White House!

So to celebrate Barack Obama's solid win of the presidency, DL Columbus will be hosting a Presidential Inauguration Party on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 from 6:30 - 11:00 pm.

We'll email everyone again once we get closer to the event with further details (such as where this will be held), but we wanted to get this out so that everyone could put it on their calendars.

Just a casual reminder that we are having our December Drinking Liberally meeting this Thursday (tomorrow) at Brynes Pub (1248 W. Third Ave). As we forgot to mention in the previous email, our meetings start at 6:30 and last as long as there are still people willing to chat with us.

Also we would like to pass along information on other liberal events going on this month:

What: WVKO (1580 AM) Listener Appreciation Night
Where: Studio 35 Cinema (3055 Indianola Avenue)
When: Tuesday, December 9th
What: Joint screening of Bill Maher's "Religulous" at 7 PM and Oliver Stone's "W" at 9 PM

Admission is Free and drinks and food are available before, during, and after the movies.

If you are like us, right after the election you took in a giant sigh of relief and a step back from any politics. Well, after our little hiatus, we would like to thank everyone who came out last month to our election party at Grandview Cafe and watched as a new era was ushered in. As much as we want to ignore politics after the onslaught that was the 2008 election, we know that politics does not stop after the presidential election. All you need to do is read the news of the economic downturn, the proposed bailout of the auto industry, Obama's cabinet picks, and the foreign mess in India and Pakistan to know that there is a lot more to discuss and be informed about.

So, please come join us for our first post election DL meeting, this Thursday, December 4th, at Brynes Pub (1248 W. Third Ave). Please note that we are going back to Brynes this month and not Grandview Cafe. Come discuss your (and our) take on the current issues, local politics, and anything else under the sun.

Well, you don't need us to tell you what is happening tomorrow or what is on the line. You have been reminded everytime you turn on the tv, listen to the radio or read the paper. However, after tomorrow the longest campaign for President that we have known will come to a conclusion. In addition, numerous state and local races, including candidates that have come out to Drinking Liberally, will be decided. So no matter what you believe or who you endorse, please vote.

Then come join us for our Election Day Party at Grandview Cafe!! We will kick things off at 7 pm (though your loyal host will start setting up around 6:30 for those who want to show up earlier). Grandview Cafe is located at 1455 W. Third Ave and once again, we will have the entire upstairs to ourselves including five tvs and a full service bar. In addition to our caption contest, we will have a battleground state call-it game. We will have a giant sign up sheet to predict when the tv station of the moment (most likely MSNBC) will call a state for a candidate. Closest time guess will win a prize and your very own Liberal Card. States include Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Virginia, and Colorado. Hopefully we are able to give away five prizes and not have to wait until days (or months) later.

Also, for those that are still interested in volunteering on Election Day please contact Henry Liu at hliu@ohioforchange.com if you are interested in working the polls (monitoring lines, voter protection, etc). If you are interested in election day canvasing, driving voters to polls, etc., please contact Vania Kent at vaniaforchange@gmail.com.

"Where can I go to watch the results on Election Day from what will be the most historic election in my lifetime and be surrounded by friends and supporters?"

Well, you can probably track down the official Democratic Party party and be surrounded by a bunch of strangers or...

You can go to the Drinking Liberally Election Day Party at Grandview Cafe!!

We have decided to head back to Grandview Cafe and reserve their upstairs loft for our victory celebration. Come join us starting at 7 pm and watch as states change from red to blue right before your very eyes!! We will have games and festivities to celebrate what will hopefully be a great night.

Once again Grandview Cafe is located at 1455 W. 3rd Ave.
