Can you hear me now?

Hello OKC DL

Sometimes living, working and playing Liberal or for that matter just slightly left of center you can feel left behind and surrounded by the right here in Oklahoma. If you can't make it to Drinking Liberally on Tuesday or if that is not enough left talk you can get serious left with XM/Sirius Radio. On XM channel 167 is 24-hour Left talk radio and on Sirius it’s channel 146. You can find a radio on eBay at the low end around $50 or even a little less. Just make sure you get everything to hook it up. (Antenna, power cord, FM or wired link to your car radio, etc) Home kits are also available. Subscriptions to get talk radio run as low as $6.99 per month using a al carte on Sirius. Plus you can keep track of the Righty talkers as well. Not to mention News, Sports and all your favorite music. I have had XM since 2003 and my new car has Sirius. So if you have any questions, let me know.

If you don't want the expense of satellite radio, you can find Internet radio stations that are dedicated to left talk. RadioTime has a good list of stations and there are others as well. Use the Google machine . Occasionally you can get it streamed directly from some of the left/progressive talk radio hosts websites.

I will be a little late Tuesday, so save me a seat. Join us at the Bricktown Brewery for some lively liberal/progressive discussion. We meet Tuesday 5PM-7PM at the downstairs bar. Just look for the folks at the downstairs bar with the Drinking Liberal Bottle in front of them and you will find some friends. See you there.

Thanks,

Billy Coyle needs help at the State Fair

Mid-Term elections are approaching fast and Billy Coyle asked if I would forward this email to our group. As you know we don't support candidates as a group, but individually we can. See everyone next week. Have a good weekend.

Hello!

Billy Coyle is running for U.S. Congress in the 5th District because of his unique vision for Oklahoman jobs, energy, and our veterans.
It’s time to elect someone who has everyday Oklahoman concerns at heart.

We need your help September 16 – 26 to further spread this message at our booth at the Oklahoma State Fair!
We have the following shifts each day and really could use YOUR help:

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
6 p.m. – 10 p.m.

There will be a FREE Billy Coyle t-shirt available and we ask that you wear them during your shift! Also, we will give you FREE tickets to the state fair as a small token of our appreciation! We just need volunteers that can be friendly and welcoming to everyone that approaches our booth!

If you can volunteer during any of these times, just e-mail ally@billycoyle2010.com or call the campaign office at 405-600-9161.

Pictures from Justin Krebs visit

Kenneth Corn to visit OKC DL

Hello OKC DL,

Oklahoma Senator Kenneth Corn and Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Oklahoma will be joining us at Drinking Liberally Tuesday evening, provided something doesn't come up last minute. He will be at the downstairs bar allowing him to talk to everyone one on one.

The turnout for Justin Krebs Wednesday was very good and I believe everyone had a good time. Justin enjoyed meeting everyone and almost sold out of the books he brought. Our group photographer Barbara sent me some of the pictures and I will be uploading them to Drinking Liberally feed soon.

Join us at the Bricktown Brewery for some lively liberal/progressive discussion. We meet every Tuesday 5PM-7PM at the downstairs bar. Just look for the big guy at the downstairs bar with the Drinking Liberal Bottle in front of him and you will find a friend. See you there.

Thanks,

Tuesday & Wednesday! 5PM Brewery

We will have our social gathering on Tuesday and the Justin Krebs book tour on Wednesday. Two nights may be too much for everyone, so I suggest Wednesday if you can only make one night. We have a "Facebook event page" at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=122942527753505 please visit the page and sign up as attending or not. I would like to get an idea of how many we can expect before putting in the final order for hors d'oeuvres. Also, if you have any media contacts, please let them know about the event.

Let me give you a few personal view points of what I think of Living Liberally and our co-founder Justin Krebs. For all my life I have been a liberal and proud of it. Well, kinda sorta. In 1960 I went by Democratic headquarters in my home town and picked up as many buttons and stickers as possible and put them everywhere. I even still have one stuck underneath an old card table we own. One of the sadist days of my life was Nov 22 1963. But then in 1968 we lost both Martin and Bobbie. It didn’t get better. We had Nixon, a war that tore our country apart. The dreams of the 60’s were gone.

Since the 80's I took a back seat. Actually I was hiding behind the seat. I was afraid of all the people around me that were putting down liberals. It was terrible being too scared to step up and voice my views and how I had a dream that we “all” could have a better life. When I was young my dad would tell me that Republicans would laugh all the way to the bank when they tricked one of us into voting for one of them. My dad was a lifelong democrat as well, although he hated Truman for breaking up a railroad strike. He was and most of his siblings were Railroaders and members of the Union. Okay, I'm a yellow dog democrat, but I found myself afraid to say it to anyone starting in the 80's. But not anymore!

I was sad in 2000 when George Bush was appointed President and devastated in 2004 when John Kerry lost the election. Well maybe he lost maybe he didn't. It is really hard to tell when you don't own the machines that count the votes. In 2004 I was living and working in the middle of crazy right wingers. They were crazy because they were voting against their best interests. Also, at the time I was in a very racist part of the country, even more than Oklahoma. And me, I just kept my mouth shut. The 2004 election was a wake-up call for me. I could no longer keep my mouth shut. I had to speak up and take a stand for my core beliefs. We had to have a country that would respect and take care of those in the minority, the poor and those that didn't have a powerful rich voice. I would no longer be in the back seat. Oh sometimes I would get angry (some have seen that), but I would focus on trying to be realistic and reasonable with my voice.

In Oklahoma City it didn't take long to find others with the same beliefs. Heck they were all around me. It seemed like everyone I talked to at the Bricktown Brewery was liberal, progressive or middle of the road. Just a few were righties. Even being in the reddest state in the Union you can still find 4 out of 10 who voted for Barack Obama. 4 out of 10, that is almost half. But those 4 are so put down by the other 6. Not at Drinking Liberally. Our social group has provided a home for people who are buried by the loud mouth righties all around us. We can talk about our beliefs and not be afraid of being put down. Oh, we don't agree on everything, but we can talk about our beliefs and not be afraid of righties putting us down. Even when they crunch up our DL table tent and throw it at us, *grin* we don't care. I know DL in Oklahoma City has given a home to other like minded Liberals and Progressives. I know because they have told me.

We also enjoy our friends on the right who join us occasionally and talk with a reasonable voice. We welcome third party members with a kind hand and open mind. Heck all we need to do is to get one those righties out of ten and we can paint Oklahoma blue. So, let’s work on that.

Then we have Justin Krebs. He has brought Living Liberally to 300 communities around the United States of America and around the world. He should be proud and we need to give him a pat on the back for making such an impact. Thank you Justin, thank you for providing us with Living/Drinking Liberally. Thank you for helping to give a voice to those who have been denied or have been too afraid to use it. This beer is for you.

Be sure and tell everyone at the Bricktown Brewery thank you for allowing us to meet there. Blueberry Ale is on tap. Good stuff. Sorry for getting so wordy this time.

Join us at the Bricktown Brewery for some lively liberal/progressive discussion. We meet Tuesday 5PM-7PM at the downstairs bar. Just look for the big guy at the downstairs bar with the Drinking Liberal Bottle in front of him and you will find a friend.

Join us Wednesday Aug 18 5PM-7PM to meet Justin Krebs and the book signing of “538 Ways to Live Work and Play like a Liberal” upstairs meeting room. We ALL need to Live, work and play like a Liberal. I try to do that now. See you there. ALL are welcome. I'll shut up now. For a day or two anyway.

Thanks,
