Sunday, April 29th is the premier of a new health care documentary, narrated by Kiefer Sutherland. A Portland State University student got fed up with hearing the rhetoric that “Canadian healthcare is broken”, so she took the train to Vancouver, set up a video camera on the street and starting filming. Hundreds of Canadians shared their healthcare stories. After posting the video to You Tube, a couple of Seattle producers found the footage, and morphed it into a full feature documentary comparing U.S. and Canadian systems. Historians, activists, politicians and physicians all weigh in on the issue in “The Healthcare Movie”. The Portland premiere is at Cinema 21 on NW 21st, on Sunday, April 29th at 4pm. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film producers, activists with Physicians for a National Health Program & Mad as Hell Doctors, and State Representative & member of the legislative health care committee, Alissa Keny-Guyer. ______________________________________________________ Hope to see everyone there tonight. - James Roe Meeting Reminder - Tonight - Local Events InfoSubmitted by James Roe on Thu, 04/12/2012 - 3:29pm.First and foremost tonight is our first meeting in April. Hope to see you guys at the Green Dragon at 928 SE 9th Ave at 7 pm. Secondly there are a couple of upcoming events that you guys might find interesting. The Bus Project is putting on a week long political conference complete with education, social events, and a weekend of structured learning about effective advocacy and politics in Oregon. I should however let them describe it in their words.. "Rebooting Democracy is Oregon's festival of ideas, innovation and democracy. It's a full weekend conference of workshops and policy discussions with the state's leading thinkers, campaign skills trainings with our most talented organizers, and plenty of time to mingle with rising leaders from politics, nonprofits, startups, the arts and more. Plus, for the first time ever, there's a whole week of entertainment leading up to the weekend of work: Political Science Theater 3000, Candidates Gone Wild, a screening of The Interrupters and the comedy of Laughter Against The Machine. Rebooting Democracy is a program of the Bus Project Foundation and will feature contributions from GOOD, Willamette Week, Center for American Progress, Citizen Engagement Lab, Bitch Magazine, Hollywood Theater, NW Film Center, Laughter Against the Machine, the Dill Pickle Club, the Urban League of Portland, Basic Rights Oregon, and many more. The festivities begin April 16, with the core conference taking place April 21 & 22. Come to one thing or sign on for the whole ride.
