Happy Memorial Day! Drinking Coffee Liberally is Off this Week!

Hey everyone!

So, Jim Kenney won the Primary! Good for him!

As much as we know you'd all like to sit down and discuss this, you'll have to wait until next week.

We're going to take this week off, but we'll be back next week!

So, There's an Election Tuesday: Drinking Coffee Liberally Mt. Airy - May 17th

It's time for another week of Drinking Coffee Liberally here in Mt. Airy and, as usual, we're meeting Sunday from 12:30pm to 2:30pm at:

Malelani Cafe Mt. Airy
6734 Germantown Ave
Philadelphia, PA 19119

Ch-ch-changes!Before we get to the nitty-gritty of what's going on in the world this week, we'd like to take a moment to mention that Malelani's is B.Y.O.B., so feel free to bring along your drink of choice.

WHO WILL BE OUR MAYOR? Long and short, who will be the next mayor? Right now, Kenney is in the lead, but will there be a last-minute upset?

The Koch Candidate It's been reported that one of the candidates for mayor, Anthony Williams, is backed by the Koch Brothers. We'll discuss what this means for the Philadelphia Democratic Primary.

Free Speech for Everyone Last Sunday, a draw Muhammad contest was held and was attacked by two people who were offended and they were promptly killed. We'll discuss why the terrorists are bad and what this means about free speech, and we'll address the people saying the organizer was "asking for it."

Clinton and Bernie Hillary Clinton continues her run for President while expanding on immigration criminal justice reform, all while supporting a Super PAC. Meanwhile, Bernie Sanders is promising to break up the banks while still in office while raising oodles of cash from just regular voters. We'll discuss the issues of both candidates while most likely ignoring any and all controversies because, darn it, we just like both people SO much!

All this, and more, at Drinking Coffee Liberally!

Prosecuting BaltimoreIt's always interesting to see the police take the same stance as the victims. "They were good cops, they didn' do nuthin'!" But they may have something: The lawyer is a close friend and mentor with the State Attorney who brought on the charges! Will justice be served or deferred?

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY, AND BRING YOURS DOWN TO DRINKING LIBERALLY! Hey, if you're going to argue, at least make it for something important like politics!

Unarmed Black Male: Drinking Liberally May 3rd

Hi all!

This week's Drinking Liberally is a double-header! Along with our regular Drinking Liberally event, we'll also be treated to an art opening.

So Drinking Liberally will still start at 12:30pm but will officially run until 2:00pm. Starting at 2:00pm there will be an art show reception with wine and more political discussion.

It's also the art show of one of your humble co-hosts, Larry West, and it's called "Unarmed Black Male". Which, at the same time, will be the main topic of this week's Drinking Liberally for fairly obvious reasons.

The main topic of discussion will be the events in Baltimore, but we'll also discuss Bernie Sanders announcement that he's running for President, how the Nigerian Army has saved over 400 girls from Boko Haram, and the earthquake in Nepal.

If you're not sure where all of this awesomeness is happening, it's here:

Hope to see you all there!

War in Yemen and The Media Dictates the Story - Drinking Coffee Liberally: April 25

This week at Drinking Coffee Liberally:

War in Yemen U.S. Navy Ships began to dock off the cost of Yemen, along with ships from other countries. Along with the growing escalation from Saudi Arabia in that country and Iran's helping the Yemen rebels, is America getting into yet another war?

Unarmed Reporters With the news breaking Monday that a man taken into custody in Baltimore died while in custody, the story went from another case of police brutality to one about racial tensions in that city, to the media basically egging on a protest to elicit a response. We'll discuss the responsibility of the media to report on incidents.

GMO's - Were we Wrong? If you're anything like me, you enjoy two things: The Daily Show and Whole Foods. This week, The Daily Show pointed out that 88% of scientists think GMO's are safe, which is only 9 percent less than the 97% who believe in Climate Change. Are we wrong to be worried about GMO's, or are there still things we should be worried about?

Obviously, there's a LOT of things going on, and more likely than not I'm ignoring something you care about. If I am, I do apologize for that. So, on that note, we want to know what you fine folks think. Are we covering things you care about? Are we ignoring them? What would you like more of at these meetings and in these newsletters?

I'll mention that I try to not to just preach to the choir, but I also know that it may mean that we don't mention certain topics. Let us know what you think!

As usual, we're meeting Sunday from 12:30pm to 2:30pm at:

Malelani Cafe Mt. Airy
6734 Germantown Ave
Philadelphia, PA 19119

Hope to see you all there!
