Fellow Liberal Coffee Drinkers-
Sorry to say, we won't be meeting to drink coffee or watch football this Sunday. Family matters have intervened, and I'm watching my 3 year-old daughter- so no playtime for Your Humble Narrator
Drink to democracy,

Are we ready for some Iggles football? Yup- it's another 1 PM start, so we're gonna meet at McMenamin's Tavern, 7150 Germantown Ave., to cheer our Birds while we drink beer and chew on poly-tickal subjects.
See ya then,

Yes, I know, it's gonna be nice + cold this coming Sunday. But what better excuse could there be to share coffee + conversation with your liberal friends. Come on down to InFusion Coffee + Tea, 7133 Germantown Ave., at 12:30 this Sunday as we Drink Coffee Liberally. Just coffee talk, no big whoop: I'll give you a topic:
* After many threats to do it, and even more GOP filibusters, Sen. Harry Reid "went nuclear" and effectively ended the filibuster in the Senate all federal judge nominees (short of the Supreme Court) and executive branch appointments. Note that, amidst all the hand-wringing about this, there is precisely no Constitutional basis for the filibuster: it's not mentioned once in the Constitution, and was merely a matter of tradition. And, traditionally, it was invoked very rarely... until President Obama took office. Literally half of all filibusters of executive branch nominees have taken place since President Obama was inaugurated. In a very real way, the GOP has only itself to blame for Reid losing patience and "going nuclear."
Might Democrats regret the lack of a filibuster when they're in the minority in the Senate and under a Republican President? Of course- but, as they say, elections have consequences. And the notion that a supermajority in the Senate was necessary to pass virtually any bill of consequence had created effectively a 4th veto point: a bill had to pass the House, Senate, Presisdent... and the minority party in the Senate.
See ya Sunday,
