New Years Event

Hi all, and Happy New Year! Drinking Liberally will not meet on New Year's Eve and will instead resume the following Thursday, January 8.

If you're looking for something to do New Year's Eve, the Warehouse Theatre invites you there for a New Year's Eve Party. The party starts at 11 PM. The cost is $10 at the door and then there will be a cash bar. Paul Savas promises "food, music, fun and hilarity". The theatre is struggling like many other businesses are so they could really use our support! Additional help such as cash donations or season ticket purchases would be extremely beneficial to them and would help keep theatre alive in Greenville. The Warehouse Theatre is located at 37 Augusta Street, about a block from where we normally meet at the Mellow Mushroom.

If we don't see you before next week, have a great New Year's Eve!

Cheers,
Matt, Jonathan, Robert, and Liz

Holiday Schedule and Charity

Drinking Liberally will meet this week on Thursday and then will take two weeks off for the holidays. We'll start back on January 8th. If we hear objections from enough of you we may decide to meet on New Year's day.

We're going to have an inauguration party of some sort sometime around the 20th of January; we'll let you know more details as we approach. If any of you know a good location for hosting parties or would like to host one at your house, please let us know--we would prefer to avoid giving our business to Fitzpatrick's again.

We'd like to try something new this week at Drinking Liberally. You know of course if you've heard enough about Drinking Liberally that the general policy of the organization is to take no side on issues, yet for special cases in which the good thing to do is so overwhelmingly and objectively clear exceptions are sometimes made. This is one of those situations: we've gotten word of a man in Iraq who has recently lost his shoes, and we would like to help him get some new ones. They don't have to be anything fancy; we're thinking something simple, but sturdy and heavy. Maybe with spikes on the bottom, or steel toes. After all, terrain in Iraq is rugged from all the destruction of the past years and we wouldn't want a guy stubbing his toe all the time.

We can talk about it tomorrow, among other things. Come out and join us one last time before the holidays. We'd love to have you!

Yay Capitalism!

The governor of Illinois got tremendous press today for his revolutionary entrepreneurial ideas. He demonstrated a deep understanding of critical business concepts such as "monopoly" and applied them to expand boldly into an area of business that was uninhabited. Not unlike early American business pioneers did he come up with a new and creative product and stick his neck out to sell it. Now that's an American we can respect and admire. And who says we haven't got true capitalism and free markets?

Join us tomorrow night for Drinking Liberally and raise a glass to the American way! To capitalism!

We'd love to have you.
