Screening Liberally at the Dallas Video Festival July 31st - August 5th

20th Annual Dallas Video Festival
July 31-August 5, 2007
http://www.videofest.org

The 20th annual Dallas Video Festival runs July 31st through August 5th. Films will be shown at both the Angelika Theater in Dallas and the Dallas Theater Center. You may buy day passes or individual tickets.

Several films are political in nature and may be of interest to our Screening Liberally film goers. To find out more about the festival, check out http://www.videofest.org and click on "Schedule."

Here's just a sampling of the political films on the schedule:

  • Senator Obama Goes to Africa- documentary about Obama searching for his roots in Africa- it's less political and more a document of this journey in his life.

  • The Anti-Americans- a really great documentary about what the rest of the world thinks of us. Looks at England, France, and Poland in particular.
  • Manufacturing Dissent- It's about Michael Moore and the tactics he uses in his film- very timely.
  • A Lesson in Discrimination- this is a doc about a social experiment done in a 3rd grade classroom, where the children are separated into two groups (short and tall) and then alternately given privileges determined by their height- it should be really interesting.
  • The Planet- a Swedish doc about global warming
  • Untitled: A Video Art Collection- a collection of short works about really great low-hi tech activism- LED throwies and such, a lot are by the Graffiti Research Lab in NYC.

Click here for a PDF file with more information about the festival.

Thanks so much to Drinking Liberally member Katie Gimenez, Festival Coordinator for the Video Association of Dallas, for letting us know about all these great offerings!

Drinking Liberally DFW area chapters and Young Democrats celebrated together last Saturday night!

All three of the DFW area chapters of Drinking Liberally got together to co-host an event to celebrate the Young Democrats national conference here in Dallas. We had at least 100 people at the Stoneleigh P last Saturday night, and more Young Democrats were still arriving at midnight when Michael & I took our leave.

Thanks so much to all who attended! A good time was had by all, and it was great to meet Justin Krebs, founder of National Drinking Liberally and the original New York City chapter, as well as the city hosts and members from Addison, Dallas and Mid-Cities!
