Eating Liberally @ Beans & Barley on Oct 1 @ 6 PM

In honor of the precipitous election that's coming up in less than 34 days, it is time once again for us to eat, and eat liberally!

Milwaukee Eating Liberally will indeed eat tomorrow, Wednesday October 1 at 6PM up at Beans & Barley, conveniently located at 1901 E. North Avenue on Milwaukee's upper east side. We will most likely be on the patio, barring rain, so make sure to dress warmly! It's going to be chilly... But your hearts will warm at the sight of so many people coming together to eat liberally and support our rightful causes, be it electing Barack Obama or tossing out the county executive and his cronies. We'll be there!

So come one, come all, lefties and liberals, moderates and conservatives alike everyone is welcome. Here are the details:

*** When: Wednesday October 1 at 6PM

*** Where: Beans & Barley, 1901 E. North Avenue, Milwaukee

As always, Eating Liberally's unsobrietous cousin Drinking Liberally will be meeting on the third Wednesday of the month down at Sugar Maple, 441 E. Lincoln Avenue in Bay View. If we can't see you tomorrow, we hope to see you there.

Eat, drink, and be liberal!

MilwaukeeFood.com post about Milwaukee DL and EL

The first coverage of Eating Liberally can be found over on MilwaukeeFood.com! It helps that I wrote the article in question; not all media works like that, but we'll take what we can get. The story is enhanced by MilwaukeeFood.com's photograph of Beans & Barley, where we'll be eating next week Wednesday. But the classic photograph of our fine Mayor Tom Barrett... well, you'll just have to see.

In any case, Eating Liberally Milwaukee does meet this coming Wednesday, October 1 up at Beans & Barley, 1901 E. North Avenue. See you there!

(No would-be politicians were injured in the making of this event.)

Drinking Liberally Milwaukee meets this week! Wed. 9/17 @ 6 PM

Hello lefty types,

Folks, I gotta say, I'm looking forward to this week's Drinking Liberally in a rather somber (if not sober) way. It's been a rough week. Our country's once-liberal economic policies have resulted in the single largest collapse of financial institutions in more than half a century. And Pink Floyd co-founder Richard Wright passed away -- which strikes me much more personally. I'll be raising a glass in Rick's honor while I ponder exactly what happens when banks collapse.

The good news is that we're expecting a good number of folks who have found Drinking Liberally through the Obama campaign. Just to be clear, Drinking Liberally is NOT part of the Obama campaign. And while we can't (officially) endorse anyone, I will be wearing an "OBAMA FISTBUMP" pin!

We do not have any Obama gear, but if someone could please bring some, I'm sure it will be happily received.

Also, there are now just 49 days until the biggest election of our lifetimes. Bear that in mind as we come together at Drinking Liberally this Wednesday.

Here's the details:

* When: 6:00 pm on Wednesday, September 17
- It now starts an hour earlier. More time to drink, er, talk!

* Where: Sugar Maple, 441 East Lincoln Avenue

*** Also: Eating Liberally has begun! ***

Eating Liberally, Milwaukee's social eating club, meets all around the Milwaukee area at 6PM on the FIRST Wednesday of the month. Our next "eating" will be at 6PM on Wednesday, October 1st at Beans & Barley, located at 1901 E. North Avenue on Milwaukee's upper east side.

We'll be gathering at Bella's Fat Cat in Bay View for a post-election day Eating Liberally on November 5th -- hopefully with something to celebrate!

Eating Liberally on the 1st Wednesdays, at 6PM and at different places;

Drinking Liberally on the 3rd Wednesdays, always at 6PM at Sugar Maple.

*** Finally: If you live in Waukesha, Wauwatosa, or anywhere else for that matter, you can start a Drinking Liberally chapter! Write back if you're interested. It's pretty simple to do, and lots of fun at that.

See you on Wednesday!

Please vote this Tuesday!

My friends,

This year's elections are fairly significant. While the November election is a historic one, this Tuesday's primary election is important, too. Several races will be decided on Tuesday.

While I can't endorse anyone via this mailing list, I do ask you to check out who's up for a vote in your area. In Milwaukee, ultraconservative candidates running as faux Democrats in some races. If you live in the 5th Congressional District, Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner faces one Republican and one Independent candidate. The primary decides the winners in all of these races. So please do vote! If you need to look up where you vote, check here:

And the Journal Sentinel has articles on all the local and state races to help you sort out who's who:

Thanks!

Milwaukee Eating Liberally meets this Wednesday Sept. 3 at 6 PM!

The latest step in the evolution of Milwaukee's democratic culture will happen this coming Wednesday September 3 when Eating Liberally comes to Transfer Pizzeria Cafe, 101 W. Historic Mitchell Street at the intersection of First & Mitchell Streets at 6:00 PM. Jeff Bedel will be your host, though I'll be there to shake your hand and tell you it's good ta see ya too.

Through sheer and utter coincidence, the first Eating Liberally will be meet during Transfer's “Walker Rebate Wednesday." Anyone who rides the bus or a bicycle to Transfer gets a 20% discount on the price of their order. Finally, something you can thank Scott Walker for!

In fact, I challenge each and every one of you to try to ride your bicycle or take the bus to show what we can do. And think about this: If you have a $20 meal, 20% off is $4.00, which covers the price of two bus trips. Cool, eh? It's not exactly profitable, but that's not the point of this event.

Our next two eatings will be on Wednesday, October 1 at Beans & Barley, 1901 E. North Avenue on Milwaukee's east side, and a post-Election Day celebration on November 5 at Bella's Fat Cat, 2737 S. Kinnickinnic Avenue in Bay View. On December 3, we'll round off the year back at Transfer. All happen at 6:00 PM.

So come one, come all to Eating Liberally! It should be a good time with friends old and new as we seek out the best in local food.

E.L.'s foul-mouthed drunkard cousin Drinking Liberally will be meeting as usual on the third Wednesday of the month, this time September 17 over at Sugar Maple, 441 E. Lincoln Avenue. Hope to see you there too!
