Laugh Liberally, Drink Liberally, Welcome Liberally -- THIS WEEK

Hello New York Liberals -

This is a big week for Living Liberally (for our nation and world as well), the umbrella organization of Drinking Liberally, Laughing Liberally and so forth.

This weekend is the Living Liberally Leaders Conference—Drinking Liberally hosts from Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, Idaho, South Carolina and more will be coming to New York City for a series of events, including social opportunities with local members of our Liberally family.

And on Saturday, we have the LIVING LIBERALLY ANNUAL CELEBRATION——our yearly fundraiser party, a festive night of food, drink and liberal merry-making with progressive organizers, political leaders, creative campaigners, friends family, and fans that brings together our political tribe and raises the funds that fuel our national network.

We're so proud that New York—where DL began 16 years ago—still has a vibrant Liberally community and that we get to play host. Come host our friends with us, contribute your time, money or good spirits to building the organization, come have fun ... and come live, laugh, eat and drink liberally.

Make America Laugh Again - Sep 2 - Sep 21 in NYC!

New York, NY (8/21/19) – Laughing Liberally, in association with Eric Krebs, will present LAUGHING LIBERALLY OFF-BROADWAY – “MAKE AMERICA LAUGH AGAIN,” featuring a diverse roster of political performers taking back the discourse and bringing joy and intelligent topical humor to the NY stage for 15 performances only (September 3-21) at The Theater at St. Clement’s (423 West 46th Street- between 9th & 10th Avenues). The run promises a different lineup of artists at each performance– and the return to the NYC stage of the great Elayne Boosler.

“It’s like Woodstock for NYC political comics” says headliner, SiriusXM radio host & Drama League nominee John Fugelsang, who performs every night with a constantly rotating cast of comedians & satirists.

Performers who will share the stage with Fugelsang include the legendary Elayne Boosler, Judah Friedlander (“30 Rock”), Janeane Garafolo, Judy Gold, Marina Franklin (“Train Wreck,” HBO’s “Crashing”), Hari Kondabolu (“The Trouble With Apu”) and comedian/SiriusXM host Dean Obeidallah – recently awarded $4.1 million in his lawsuit against white supremacists.

“Audiences are beyond bad jokes about Donald Trump’s appearance” said Fugelsang. “The producers really wanted a cross-section of smart, ferocious & hilarious live performers who transcend the label of ‘political comic.’”

Guests also include Ted Alexandro (“Letterman,” “The View”), Chuck Nice (“Star Talk”), Negin Farsad (“Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me”), Christian Finnegan (“Chappelle’s Show”), Frank Conniff (“Mystery Science Theater 3000”), Ophira Eisenberg (NPR’s “Ask Me Another”), Carmen Lynch (“The Late Show” with both Letterman & Colbert), Liz Miele (AXS TV’s “Gotham Comedy Live”), Carole Montgomery (Showtime’s “Funny Women of a Certain Age”), Gregory Joseph (“New Faces of Comedy”), Mehran Khaghani (“Comedy Central,” “Last Comic Standing”), Leah Bonnema (“Gotham Comedy Live”), and Calvin Cato (“Sketchfest”), with more to be announced. A complete list of performers and dates can be found at

“I’m proud to be part of a lineup that includes gay comics, Muslim comics, and at least one gay Muslim comic” says Fugelsang. “To have Elayne Boosler – the first woman comic to get a primetime TV special and a former host of the White House Correspondent’s Dinner headlining 4 dates of a run like this is amazing.”

"While some politicians promise to Make American Great Again, others are struggling to keep America whole again, as the beacon to the rest of the world of decency, compassion, justice and civil rights,” producer Krebs says. He adds, “At Laughing Liberally, we feel that we can assist the process by reminding Americans that laughter is a universal medicine that can help to heal the wounds of anger, divisiveness and political battle. Besides, it's the best that some of us can do to bring America together again."

Fugelsang added “recently someone said to me – ‘hey – it’s not funny anymore.’ And I’m like ‘I know. That’s why we’ve got to make fun of it.’”

The Theater at St. Clements is New York’s 3rd oldest off-Broadway performance venue. David Mamet’s “American Buffalo” premiered there and Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Faye Dunaway, Harvey Fierstein & Nathan Lane have all performed on its stage.

The performance schedule is: Tuesday - Saturday at 7:30pm. Tickets are $20 & $40 and available at

CHUMP: The Musical. This Thursday in NYC!

If you were wondering when someone would make a musical about the villain in this year's election, wait no longer...

Good friends of LAUGHING LIBERALLY are producing CHUMP, a song-filled, soulful, satiric send-up of a certain presidential candidate.

You can see the cabaret version live, ONE NIGHT ONLY, this Thursday in NYC.

CHUMP: The Musical
Thursday, Sep 29, 6pm
Duplex Theater, 61 Christopher St

More about this event!

CHUMP is an original musical comedy inspired by Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator. It tells the story of the rise of a Trump-like character - Chump - and the three people who overcome fear, conflict, and culture to stop him. Rosie, a Latina immigrant who cleans the Chump Hotel. Malik, a Muslim second generation American and ex-Marine. And Estelle, Chump's son's Jewish fiancé. Chump is a charmer and a bully in public; behind closed doors he is a failed businessman, a figurehead often paralyzed by his insecurity.

Chump 2016 supports critical campus outreach and millennial engagement efforts. We are distributing CHUMP for free to encourage independent productions across the country -- but particularly in electorally critical states -- on college campuses and in regional theaters. At every performance, audience members will be able to register to vote and sign up to volunteer.

More reasons to go?

1. It's a good show. As Seth Rudetsky said this: "Holy cow! These songs are good! Who knew you could write super melodic songs with amazing lyrics about a complete nightmare trying to destroy America?"

2. The heroes in CHUMP are the people Trump and co have been hammering away on for the past year: Muslims and Jews, African Americans and Latinxs, and of course, women.

3. For an hour you can take a break from crying about Trump, and laugh instead! Because CHUMP is funny in the way that the best kind of political humor is funny. This isn't about his fashion; it's about his fascism.

4. Only $20 gets you two drinks AND a great show.

5. CHUMP will inspire you to do more than you're already doing. It will remind you of what is possible when people come together, lock arms, and take a stand. Because we all need some inspiration.

Executive Producer: Schlep Labs
Script: Adam Mansbach and Mik Moore
Songwriters: Keith Harrison, Laura Harrison, Alan Schmuckler, Matt Buechele, Jean Grae, Mira Stroika, Halley Bondy, and Lance Horne
