Competition: Create the Official Unofficial Drink Of the Obama Presidency

On Inauguration Day, we'll all want to raise a glass to our new President as we wish him -- and our country -- all the best.

But...what drink will we be lifting?

It is the job of Drinking Liberally to determine the Official Unofficial Drink of the Obama Presidency. After all, we're the folks who circulate a drinking game every State of the Union, created drink guides for the Conventions and even published Liberal Mixology, a recipe book for the drinks of democracy...this is our civic duty.

This is a democracy though, so we're not going to issue some top-down edict about what you should be drinking. We like our ideas like we like our pints: bottoms-up...so send us your ideas.

Post drink ideas in this comments thread, or email them to info@livingliberally.org. In the new year, we'll introduce our judges and find ways to solicit popular opinion...and we'll be ready to brew up something special by January 20th.

Cheers.

A long time before Bush was

A long time before Bush was ever President, I lived in Pensacola FL where my favorite drink on the beach was called "The BUSHWACKER" !!
It's a real yummy drink and would be absolutely perfect for the Inaugural celebration!!!!

2 oz Coffee Liqueur
1 oz Dark Rum
1 oz Creme de Cacao
Vanilla Ice Cream (optional)
4 oz Half and Half
4 oz Coconut Cream

Pensacola Bushwacker Directions
Pour all ingredients into a blender (ice cream optional) with two cups of ice, and blend until mixed. Serve in a hurricane glass.

Barack O’Poma: Pour a dash of pomegranate liqueur into a champagne flute and top off with champagne.

In central Maine my husband

In central Maine my husband and I plan to toast Obama's inauguration the same way we toasted his election: champagne with a dash of pomegranate liqueur which we christened the "Barack O'Poma" -- the only difference being that on Tuesday we hope to drink it out of the commemorative flutes (which have not yet arrived).

Perhaps the punctuation will help distinguish it from Trip's undoubtedly delicious drink!

The bar that we gather in,

The bar that we gather in, Trip, in Santa Monica, CA, concocted a drink special in honor of Drinking Liberally: the "Barack O-Pom-a". It is a pomegranate martini. We DL-ers have enjoyed it on many occasions, but never more so than on Election Night!

Please consider Trip's "Barack O-Pom-a" when selecting the Official Unofficial Drink!
