The Most Unnatural Disaster

Following devastation in the Bahamas,
Dorian hammers away at the US coast
-- yet FEMA funding has been shifted
to build Trump's racist, wasteful wall.

Fires raging in the Amazon,
record highs this summer,
once-rare storms regularly causing chaos,
while Trump doctors maps with markers
& says he never heard of Category 5 storms.

Democrats take to a town hall
to talk climate crisis & Green New Deal
while Trump's focus is repealing regulations
on fuel standards, light bulbs & methane.

Of all these unnatural "natural" disasters,
Trump is the most unnatural and disastrous.

His outrageous, destructive impact
makes Britain look calm by comparison...

The Climate Crisis in a Climate of Crisis

Hurricanes approach with a fury
after a summer of heat waves
as Greta Thunberg arrives with a cause
to light a fire under global leaders.

The Amazon's catastrophic fire
terrifies the international community
while Trump's EPA pushes rollbacks
to further fuel the climate crisis.

Trump & China confound the economy,
Bolsanaro confounds the world,
Boris confounds Parliament
& the G7 confound each other.

And while the Dems nix candidates
from the September debates,
they nix a climate debate as well.

Arrogant autocrats create
a climate of crisis in which they thrive.
The rest of us want to confront
a climate crisis in order to survive.

Make America Laugh Again - Sep 2 - Sep 21 in NYC!

GET YOUR TICKETS NOW -- TICKETS AND MORE INFORMATION AT https://www.laughingliberallyny.com

New York, NY (8/21/19) – Laughing Liberally, in association with Eric Krebs, will present LAUGHING LIBERALLY OFF-BROADWAY – “MAKE AMERICA LAUGH AGAIN,” featuring a diverse roster of political performers taking back the discourse and bringing joy and intelligent topical humor to the NY stage for 15 performances only (September 3-21) at The Theater at St. Clement’s (423 West 46th Street- between 9th & 10th Avenues). The run promises a different lineup of artists at each performance– and the return to the NYC stage of the great Elayne Boosler.

“It’s like Woodstock for NYC political comics” says headliner, SiriusXM radio host & Drama League nominee John Fugelsang, who performs every night with a constantly rotating cast of comedians & satirists.

Performers who will share the stage with Fugelsang include the legendary Elayne Boosler, Judah Friedlander (“30 Rock”), Janeane Garafolo, Judy Gold, Marina Franklin (“Train Wreck,” HBO’s “Crashing”), Hari Kondabolu (“The Trouble With Apu”) and comedian/SiriusXM host Dean Obeidallah – recently awarded $4.1 million in his lawsuit against white supremacists.

“Audiences are beyond bad jokes about Donald Trump’s appearance” said Fugelsang. “The producers really wanted a cross-section of smart, ferocious & hilarious live performers who transcend the label of ‘political comic.’”

Guests also include Ted Alexandro (“Letterman,” “The View”), Chuck Nice (“Star Talk”), Negin Farsad (“Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me”), Christian Finnegan (“Chappelle’s Show”), Frank Conniff (“Mystery Science Theater 3000”), Ophira Eisenberg (NPR’s “Ask Me Another”), Carmen Lynch (“The Late Show” with both Letterman & Colbert), Liz Miele (AXS TV’s “Gotham Comedy Live”), Carole Montgomery (Showtime’s “Funny Women of a Certain Age”), Gregory Joseph (“New Faces of Comedy”), Mehran Khaghani (“Comedy Central,” “Last Comic Standing”), Leah Bonnema (“Gotham Comedy Live”), and Calvin Cato (“Sketchfest”), with more to be announced. A complete list of performers and dates can be found at www.laughingliberallyny.com.

“I’m proud to be part of a lineup that includes gay comics, Muslim comics, and at least one gay Muslim comic” says Fugelsang. “To have Elayne Boosler – the first woman comic to get a primetime TV special and a former host of the White House Correspondent’s Dinner headlining 4 dates of a run like this is amazing.”

"While some politicians promise to Make American Great Again, others are struggling to keep America whole again, as the beacon to the rest of the world of decency, compassion, justice and civil rights,” producer Krebs says. He adds, “At Laughing Liberally, we feel that we can assist the process by reminding Americans that laughter is a universal medicine that can help to heal the wounds of anger, divisiveness and political battle. Besides, it's the best that some of us can do to bring America together again."

Fugelsang added “recently someone said to me – ‘hey – it’s not funny anymore.’ And I’m like ‘I know. That’s why we’ve got to make fun of it.’”

The Theater at St. Clements is New York’s 3rd oldest off-Broadway performance venue. David Mamet’s “American Buffalo” premiered there and Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Faye Dunaway, Harvey Fierstein & Nathan Lane have all performed on its stage.

The performance schedule is: Tuesday - Saturday at 7:30pm. Tickets are $20 & $40 and available at www.laughingliberallyny.com

We've Entered the Twilight Zone

Trump calls himself "the chosen one"
& accuses Jewish Democrats of "great disloyalty,"
while professional liar Sean Spicer gets an invite
to appear on Dancing With the Stars.

Trump rolls out more anti-immigrant policies:
from punishing immigrants for using food stamps
to detaining families indefinitely,
while yielding to the NRA on gun restrictions.

While Brazil's Amazon is burning in a fiery crisis,
its right-wing leader blames environmentalists.

And Trump canceled a presidential trip
because Denmark wouldn't consider
selling Greenland to the United States.

Some of these headlines feel like The Onion.
All of these news stories feel like the Twilight Zone.
Now, through impeachment or election,
let's make it the twilight of the Trump administration.

You deserve a drink & to share what you think
with cool company on a hot day
at your local progressive social club.

We Are The Tired. The GOP Is The Poor.

Trump attacks immigration—again—
& his immigration chief justifies it
by rewriting the Statue of Liberty's poem.

GOP takes no action on guns—again—
even as the NRA faces turmoil
& Walmart faces pressure over gun sales.

Steve King faces backlash—again—
for comments on rape and incest
after a career marked by white supremacy.

The Statue of Liberty poem reads:
"Give us your tired, your poor,
your huddled masses yearning to breathe free."

Well as this point WE are tired:
Tired of the attacks, racism, misogyny,
the chaos, corruption, corporate cronyism.

And the GOP is poor:
Too bankrupt of courage to defy Trump
& bankrupt of morals to defy the 1% --
poor excuses for leadership in DC.

And as for our huddled masses—
maybe voting in 2020 election
is one way we'll breathe free.

Breathe free, speak freely, and drink liberally
as you pour a pint & make a point

A Nation Armed, A Nation Harmed

Mass shootings in El Paso, Dayton, Gilroy,
and daily gun violence & fatalities,
scar, terrorize & change all of us --
but fail to change Republican politics.

The gun massacres aren't the only tragedies
aimed at immigrants, fueled by racism,
as ICE launches unprecedented raids,
families are separated, neighbors deported
& kids are kept in cages & camps.

Trump, armed with Twitter,
dehumanizes immigrants,
attacks people of color,
then calls his critics racist.

With guns & white supremacy,
our nation is armed.
By guns & white supremacy,
our nation is harmed.

It's time to disarm hate
& to vote out the haters.

In the meantime, find company & comfort,

The Heat Is On

Over 2 nights, 20 candidates
stand for five hours
to share what they stand for
and see who stands out
in the race to stand up to Trump.

The push for impeachment
is reaching a majority of Democrats
& while it's not yet "impeachment now,"
it's not necessarily "impeachment never."

As Congress goes on recess,
Trump rallies on the road
so racist rants & hateful chants
can double down on terrifying tweets.

Hot days, heated debates,
& a Pyro-in-Chief fanning racist flames
make for a scorching summer
& some scorched-Earth politics.

Break the heat with cool company,
refresh with chill convo & cold beers
at your local progressive social club.

Why Are We Still Mulling Over Mueller?

Trump is not exonerated,
Congress has a constitutional job
to determine obstruction of justice,
and so Pelosi suggests ...
seeing what plays out in the courts?

Trump vetoes bipartisan bills
to curtail arms sales to Saudi Arabia,
making 2 out of 3 vetoes about protecting
his relationship with the House of Saud ...
& Congress will just leave it there?

Continued attacks on immigrants,
family separations by ICE & in camps,
escalated racist attacks on reps ...
& the GOP sees "socialism" as a threat?

Meanwhile sweeping street protests
sweep away Puerto Rico's governor.

When you are bold, exert your power
& show up, you can make progress.

Yet Pelosi continue to mull over Mueller.

We've had our Mueller time.
No more mulling time.
Now it's movement time -- so get moving.

Much to share that's in the air,
tell what you think over a drink
at your local progressive social club.

Where Can We Send Him?

Trump followers chant "Send her back"
aiming an age-old racist trope at Ilhan Omar,
a refugee-turned-rep & one of the first
Muslim women in Congress.

Trump's condemned by Congress
but revels in his attacks on the Squad,
as well as attacks on immigrants,
separating families, flaunting the law.

Trump distracts & McConnell obstructs
while Dems want to push an agenda
of health care, jobs, education,
climate change & fair economy
to ensure our nation works for all.

One agenda of division & destruction.
One agenda full of heart and hope.
One agenda says "Go back home."
The other: "Give us your tired, your poor,
your huddled masses yearning to breath free."

If GOP won't grow a spine, time to get the boot.
And let's send Trump packing -- but not home --
after all, New York City doesn't want him back.

Abuse of Power vs Disuse of Power

A billionaire arrested for sexual assault
entangles Trump's Labor Secretary.
Yet House Dems call for Acosta's resignation
rather than pursue his removal.

Kids are still locked in cages,
more detention camps are built,
widespread raids are threatened
& GOP stands with Trump's approach.
Yet House Dems approve spending
that funds these atrocities.

Despite the court, the administration pushes
to add its citizenship census question.
Despite subpoenas & agreements,
it urges officials NOT to appear before Congress.
Yet House Dems stall over contempt,
slow-walk demands for information
& stifle the momentum for impeachment.

And while Trump attacks the ACA,
climate regulations & the Constitution,
House leadership attacks its own members.

Many of us fear Trump's power.
House Dems seem to fear their own.

The GOP abuses power. Dems neglect it.
Time to turn the power back on in the House.
